Owen succeeded in bailing Zayn out. No one knew how he did it.
The bail process was not troublesome and would usually take an afternoon. That was why it was still a little unbelievable that Zayn was out so soon.
Lindsey froze for a few seconds before delight instantly engulfed her.
"Aunt Wendy! Zayn’s out!" Lindsey turned around and grabbed Mrs. Wendy’s arm. She had a huge smile on her face.
Mrs. Wendy was also overjoyed. Getting bail was the first step. They all had confidence in Zayn. As long as he was out, he would certainly be able to solve the crisis at hand.
The reporters chased after Zayn to interview him, but he did not even glance at them as he walked to the car. Quentin helped Zayn to open the door and Zayn sat inside.
Denarius’s assets were still frozen and they still could not go back to the Guggenheim mansion, so Lindsey hurriedly called Quentin.
The call was quickly picked up and the TV was showing the departing car. Lindsey settled her mind and asked, "Is it going well?"
Quentin was driving and looked through the rearview mirror at Zayn, who was resting his eyes. He then gave a soft "mm".
"Pass the phone to Zayn." Lindsey should have gone in person. She had been waiting for Owen's news and did not expect Zayn to come out so quickly.
Lindsey expected to hear Zayn's voice, but Quentin said, "Madam, the President said that he’s a little tired and needs some rest."
She was stunned and the smile on her face solidified into a stiff arc. She never expected this answer.
However, she thought about the mental and physical stress Zayn must have endured during this time. She suppressed the strange feeling in her heart and reluctantly said, "Okay then, let him rest first. I'll get Aunt Wendy to make a good meal for him."
"Umm...Madam." Quentin sounded like he was put in a difficult position. He looked at Zayn again and saw that Zayn’s eyes were still tightly closed. Zayn had no intention to sit up and speak, so Quentin had to relay the message. "Madam, the President said he’s not going over to your place today."
Lindsey could not understand what Quentin meant for a while and asked in a daze, "What do you mean he’s not coming over here? Does he have something else to deal with today? It's alright, we’ll wait for him to come home no matter how late it is."
Once Quentin spoke up, it was not so difficult to continue being the bearer of bad news. He finished explaining in one breath, "The President said you can stay at Mr. Juhl's house. He’ll contact you later."
The smile on Lindsey's face completely disappeared. There was no hint of joy in her eyes, but her tone was still calm as she said, "What is it? Tell Zayn to answer the phone and talk to me now."
Quentin did not know what was going on either, but Zayn did not want to answer the phone. Lindsey clearly caught on to Zayn's strange behavior, so Quentin was put in a difficult position.
"Madam, let's talk later." Quentin was on the verge of tears.
"Okay." Lindsey was frank. "Where are you now? Where are you going? I'll go find you."
Her heart was beating wildly and she had a bad premonition. Suddenly, she could hear the man’s low voice over the phone. "Give it to me."
Lindsey held her breath. She was not sure why she felt so nervous and unconsciously tightened her grip on the phone. A clear voice came through, “It’s me.”
"Do you have time now? I have something I need to discuss with you." Zayn's voice was cold and harsh. His tone was as if he was talking to a stranger.
Lindsey took a deep breath and suppressed her anger. Before she could speak, a small hand tugged on her sleeve gently.
She lowered her head and saw Dezi looking at her with a burning gaze. He had learned sign language and gestured not very skillfully, asking, "Is it Daddy?"
Lindsey’s eyes stung and almost cried, but she finally held back and gently nodded her head.
Dezi's eyes suddenly lit up and a big smile appeared on his little face. Lindsey gently stroked his head. "Mommy’s talking to Daddy."
The impulse to question Zayn faded a bit after being interrupted by Dezi, but she still sounded aggrieved as she said, "What time? If you don't want to come over to Jade Garden, I can go over to you."
Jade Garden was where Lindsey was living now. It was ridiculous that she did not even know where Zayn was.
Zayn's voice quickly came through the phone, "No, I'll go over to Jade Garden to look for you."
"Okay." Lindsey unconsciously held Dezi's little shoulder. After some thought, she added, "I don't know what you’re doing, but Dezi misses his dad very much."
This time, there was a very long silence. Just when Lindsey thought that perhaps he had already hung up, Zayn suddenly said, "Mm, I know. I also miss him very much."
