After Yvette finished speaking, she could not help but laugh. "I don’t know, but I can’t be with Shaun now."
‘Whether we love each other or not.’
After all, this was their relationship. Lindsey could only give advice and could not make the final decision. Yvette was an adult, and any decision she made was definitely after careful consideration.
Yvette’s words also touched Lindsey and made her think about her own situation.
Lindsey was also being spiteful towards herself and Zayn. She pretended to be nonchalant with everyone relating to Zayn. She was also cold and pretended to be polite to Zayn because of the little bit of resentment at the bottom of her heart.
It was just too difficult to stay calm. No one knew how Lindsey felt because she did not tell anyone. Lindsey was fully aware of her situation, but she could not get past herself.
Yvette had taken care of Shaun for a long time before and Lindsey saw that there was nothing she could do to help, so she sat for a while and left.
Lindsey went back to Opal Suites and unlocked the front door with her fingerprint, but saw Mrs. Wendy greeting her from the kitchen with a panicked look.
She was stunned. "What's wrong?"
Lindsey swept her gaze around the house and did not see Dezi. Her eyes instantly changed. "Where’s Dezi?"
Mrs. Wendy put her hands in front of her body and was somewhat at a loss. "Zayn just came over and said he wanted to spend some time with Dezi, then took him away."
The rage in Lindsey's heart instantly exploded beyond her control, but she was not mad at Mrs. Wendy.
Lindsey took a deep breath and suppressed her anger. "Where did they go?"
"Zayn said they’ll just take a walk around the neighborhood. He hasn’t seen Dezi for a while and will send him back soon." Mrs. Wendy's voice was getting smaller and in the end, she did not dare to look at Lindsey directly.
"If he wanted to be with Dezi so much, why did he say that he didn't want Dezi in the first place?" Lindsey's voice suddenly rose so high that even Mrs. Wendy was startled by her.
After saying that, Lindsey's chest heaved violently. She then sensed that she might have scared Mrs. Wendy and added, "Sorry, I'm not mad at you."
Lindsey rubbed the tip of her nose, tilted her head back, and closed her eyes, but she could not stop the sadness that came from her heart.
Mrs. Wendy just looked at Lindsey blankly and watched as Lindsey’s tears fell from the corners of her eyes, yet she quickly wiped them away.
"Zayn is a real *sshole," Lindsey muttered as she reached into her bag and started to feel for her phone, then called Zayn.
The call was connected after three rings and Zayn sounded like he was vaguely panting. "It's me."
"I know it's you." Lindsey was annoyed at him. She would never show her vulnerability and sadness in front of Zayn. "Where’s Dezi?"
"In the park with me." Zayn knew he was in the wrong and had a good attitude. He added, "I'll send him back right away."
Seeing that Zayn had such a good attitude, Lindsey did not know how to vent out her anger. In the end, she only said in a cold voice, "Hurry up then."
After Lindsey hung up, Mrs. Wendy looked at her apprehensively. Lindsey smiled apologetically. “Sorry for startling you, Aunt Wendy. I wasn’t mad at you.”
Lindsey did not even know why she was so angry at that moment.
She did not even change her shoes before she opened the door and walked out. She then told Mrs. Wendy, "I'll go out and take a look. You can start cooking first."
Dezi did not want to let go and kept holding Zayn’s hand. It was rare for Dezi to be so stubborn. Lindsey and Zayn tried to persuade Dezi, but he was adamant. In the end, Dezi had tears in his eyes.
The boy hardly ever cried, so when Lindsey saw this, her heart tightened and she felt like crying as well.
She turned her head, not wanting Zayn to see her like this, but Zayn noticed it and he gradually clenched his fists.
His wife and son were crying because of him. It felt like someone punched him in the chest because it felt painful.
Lindsey could not bear to see Dezi so disappointed, so she forced down her tears and compromised. "Then Daddy can go upstairs with us, but Daddy is really busy, so you can't take up too much of his time."
Next to her, Zayn wanted to say that he was not busy at all and that he could come over every day if they wanted him to, but he held back.
Little Dezi stopped crying and smiled.
He reached out towards Zayn, who picked him up and gently nudged him. "Boys shouldn’t cry so much. Daddy never cried when I was your age."
Lindsey subconsciously retorted, "Nonsense, why do I remember you crying when you were even older than Dezi?"
She was referring to the time in the orphanage. Zayn did not fit in with the other kids and cried in secret, but Lindsey found him. The little girl then comforted him patiently and clumsily.
It had been so many years since then.
The two of them froze when Lindsey said that.
