Shaun pinched Yvette’s chin and forced her to turn to look at him. "Look me in the eye and say that you don't love me."
Yvette looked at him. Her lips opened and closed a few times. There was a stubbornness in her eyes as well as a faint watery glint. "I don’t love you."
In the next second, a rough, domineering kiss engulfed her. Shaun’s kiss was not gentle at all, which was very different from his usual appearance. Yvette wanted to push him away, but her waist and hands were held by Shaun’s hand tightly while her head was controlled by his other hand. She simply could not break free.
The kiss lasted for a long time, and Yvette passively let him kiss her. By the time Shaun finally let go of her, the both of them were panting.
"Do you love me?" Shaun’s Adam’s apple moved slightly and the light inside his eyes gave off a different look from his usual appearance.
Yvette almost could not help but indulge in them, but she still obstinately said, "No!"
In the next second, Shaun tilted his head and wanted to kiss her again. Before their lips touched, Yvette suddenly shouted, "Shaun Juhl! What do you really want?"
The man in front of her looked at her so intently that Yvette could not help but cover her eyes, not wanting to overly interpret the emotions inside. Shaun suddenly sneered. "You don’t know what I want?"
"What do I know? What should I know?" Yvette closed her eyes and leaned her head against the wall behind her. "I could never read or understand you!"
"You just don't want to understand me anymore." Shaun suddenly let out a low growl. "You gave up on me!"
Yvette even heard a bit of grievance in this growl.
The two of them were in a rage. Yvette was still mad at Shaun for threatening her earlier and flashes of Shaun on his knee proposing to Lindsey kept coming up before her eyes.
In the next moment, Shaun took her hand and asked her to go with him, then he threatened to kiss her in front of all those people if she did not go with him. He even kept asking her if she loved him.
Yvette wanted to laugh. Her lips twitched, but she could not pull out a smile. All she felt was heartache.
"Shaun Juhl! Stop it!" Yvette lowered her eyes to calm herself down. "Weren’t you just proposing to Lindsey? Don't make me think that you're a joke."
The man in front of her suddenly let out a low laugh. "Aren't I?"
"I thought you would care." Shaun leaned in close to her cheek. Their eyes were almost stuck together. They were close enough to clearly see their reflections in each others’ pupils.
Shaun slowly said with a hoarse voice, "The so-called marriage proposal is to stimulate you and Zayn. I hid it from Lindsey to set this up. Zayn's reaction is obvious and this proposal was directly interrupted."
He was incomparably frank and did not mind speaking his heart. "And you...you do care. You’re just lying to yourself."
Yvette did not say anything.
Later, when Shaun suffered such a serious injury, she only hoped that he would be healthy again and that his heartbeat would get stronger. She wanted him to stand in front of her, even though he was frowning and reprimanding her for not knowing how to cross the road, that was enough for her.
Then, when Shaun regained consciousness, her joy was so short-lived before it was shattered by reality.
"I love you." The man's clear voice became hoarse as it resounded in her ears. "I don’t know when I started loving you, but you hid in my heart without a warning. When people told me that I’m too lonely and should find a girlfriend, I thought of you. When they told me to get married sooner, I thought of you as well.
“When others said that I loved kids, so I should find a girl to have one together, I thought of you again. When I fantasize about my future, the person I want to grow old with is no one but you... It's a pity that when I realized this, you’d already started to move on.”
Shaun's chest suddenly seemed to be so hot that Yvette felt her palm was scalded.
The twinge in her chest almost made Yvette unsteady on her feet. She blinked gently and her tears rolled silently down her cheeks.
"Yvette, I know you love me too. Don't rush to refute me. Even if you don't, please just let me finish the rest of my words."
Shaun's voice was like a whisper but it sounded like a thunderclap in Yvette's ears.
Feeling her silent sobs, Shaun hugged her tighter. "I can't accept that there’s another man by your side, that your name is tied to another man, or that you’ll wear a wedding dress one day, but the person waiting to hold your hand isn’t me. Even if you’ve completely lost hope in me and no longer love me, I won’t give up. Let me woo you this time, okay?"
