Lindsey's surprise was only momentary, then she just felt an expected hopelessness. ‘Whatever, there’s nothing to be worked up about,’ Lindsey said to herself mentally.
She lowered her eyelashes and could feel everyone’s eyes on her, but Lindsey pretended not to notice. Even though the meeting was not over, Lindsey had no interest in listening to the rest of it. She picked up her purse and phone that was placed on the table, then got up and left the big conference room.
Quentin glanced at Zayn and found that Zayn had no intention of stopping her, so he resentfully kept his mouth shut.
After watching Lindsey leave until her silhouette disappeared, Zayn finally withdrew his gaze and said indifferently, "Continue."
The people in the room could tell that Zayn was in a bad mood, but Zayn was always like this. They could not tell whether it was because of his ex-wife's blatant defiance of his authority and her indignant departure from the meeting that put him in a bad mood, or if it was because of something else.
The atmosphere in the conference room was surprisingly even more depressing than just now.
"Hey, Brother." Lindsey picked up Shaun's call while walking. The sound of her high heels on the polished floor echoed in the big space and was inexplicably irritating to her.
The Denarius employees who happened to see Lindsey greeted her politely and Lindsey returned the greeting with a polite but distant smile.
"What’s up?" Lindsey asked softly as she pressed the down button of the elevator.
Shaun did not beat around the bush and asked directly, "Did you attend Denarius' shareholder meeting today?"
The elevator stopped at her level and Lindsey stepped into the elevator with a faint "mm."
"I guess the results aren't great." Sensing Lindsey's lack of enthusiasm, Shaun almost immediately guessed the outcome of the board meeting.
“Ding!” The elevator reached the first floor. When Lindsey stepped out of the building, she subconsciously reached out to tighten her jacket. The cool breeze from outside hit her and made her shiver inexplicably.
"Mine and Dezi's shares aren’t enough to sway Zayn’s decision." Lindsey’s voice also became colder from the cool breeze. Her nose twitched and made her voice take on a slightly nasal tone.
Shaun let out a low sigh. "What exactly is Zayn trying to do?"
"I don't know." Lindsey got into the car, then thought of something and said to the phone.
"By the way, Brother, you told me previously to join your company to help you. I've been thinking about it for a few days and I accept it. However, I want to be a partner, not an employee of Hemera. I have some money on me, so do you have any projects that you need me to invest in?"
Shaun did not expect this. After a moment of silence, he actually laughed. "Don't tell me that you were triggered by today's events."
"No." Lindsey calmly denied it. "No matter what the outcome was, I was going to look for you to help you and to help myself."
Lindsey carefully started the car and the white car slowly slid out of the parking space. Lindsey looked left and right twice before driving the car out.
When she got onto the road, Shaun's delighted voice sounded, "I do have a project that’s lacking capital investment. It’s also lacking a project leader though...if you’re interested."
The other side finished in one breath. That voice was not entirely unfamiliar to Lindsey. She thought about it carefully and thought that it must be one of Zayn’s subordinates. Back then when she was still at the Guggenheim mansion, he was with Soren and was in charge of protecting her. She recalled those memories and rubbed her temples. “Is this Kyle?”
She remembered that this was what Soren called him last time.
The other side quickly replied, "Yes, it's me. Is there anything you need, Madam?"
Her heart settled for a moment. Lindsey was not in the mood to correct the way Zayn's gang of subordinates addressed her. "I have some things I want to ask Soren. Just get him to call me back when he returns."
"Alright," Kyle quickly replied.
After hanging up, Lindsey realized that something was wrong. If Soren went out to do something and did not bring his phone with him, how would he contact others?
Sieben was on the side playing with a Rubik's cube. She was so talented that she was able to figure it out on her own without being taught. She was almost done matching all six sides of the cube.
Lindsey thought about it and was still a little worried. After Sieben was done matching the last face of the Rubik’s cube, Linsdey asked, "Sieben, do you know what Soren is doing these days?"
She usually never asked about Soren’s whereabouts. After the divorce, Lindsey never asked about it, but since this was the first time she could not contact Soren, she felt a little worried.
Sieben held her latest work of art and felt a small sense of accomplishment. When she heard Lindsey's words, she subconsciously said, "I don't know, Sorie didn't tell me."
