Lindsey tried to recall it for a while, but she did not remember much. Luckily, Soren's questions were not testing her memory too much. She thought about it and answered, "At the south entrance of Chopin Avenue. He was wearing a long gray coat and black pants that looked a bit old and shabby. He was alone and I didn’t see anyone else around."
After saying that, Lindsey sniffled. Lindsey thought that it was because she had just pulled open the curtains, so the cold air that had been blocked out overnight probably shocked her.
Soren did not notice any abnormalities. He turned to order the people around him, then quickly hung up the phone.
Lindsey let out a deep breath to get rid of the grogginess. She stood at the window for a while before she went to wake Dezi up. It was the weekend, so he did not have to go to school, but Lindsey still woke him up early.
The little one was still sleepy and looked so adorable that Lindsey could not help but kiss him on the forehead. "Wake up! Did you forget what you promised Mommy yesterday?"
Little Dezi rubbed his eyes. Although he was still not fully awake, he still answered Lindsey, "We’re going to see Grandpa and Grandma."
"Yes, Dezi’s so smart!" Lindsey pinched his nose, then picked him up from the bed and gently changed him into the clothes she had prepared.
Mrs. Wendy did not want to go and it was inappropriate to take Sieben with her, so Lindsey just went with Dezi.
Opal Suites and the Guggenheim Cemetery in the western suburbs were not close. It was more than an hour’s drive before they reached their destination. Lindsey got out of the car with Dezi in her hand and held a bouquet of chrysanthemums.
Lindsey held Dezi's hand tightly and passed through a large area of acacia trees with only bare branches left, then saw the tombstones of Old Master and Old Madam Guggenheim.
Dezi subconsciously looked up at Lindsey and could not help but snuggle up to her side because this place was quite secluded.
Lindsey held his hand and stood in front of the tombstone, then squatted down and placed the flowers she brought in front of the tombstone of their joint grave. She then took out the tissue she brought with her to wipe the top of the tombstone carefully.
Next to her, Dezi followed Lindsey and knelt on the ground.
"Grandpa, I've brought my child to visit you." After saying that, Lindsey touched Dezi’s head and pointed to the two tombstones, then explained to the little one which one was Grandpa and which one was Grandma.
Seeing that Dezi understood her, Lindsey held his little hand and looked at the tombstones again. "Grandpa, Grandma, Dezi can’t speak now, but when he does speak one day, I’ll bring him back so that he can pay his respects."
The stone slab in front of the tombstone was a little cold and Lindsey was afraid that Dezi could not stand the cold. She pulled Dezi up, then said a lot more to the tombstones.
"Zayn and I got divorced. I planned to tell you about it, but I never got the chance to come over. Dezi is with me, but Zayn also cares a lot about him," Lindsey said as she looked at the pictures of the kind-hearted old man and the beautiful, elegant old lady on the tombstone. She fell silent for a long time.
Lindsey told them about her and Dezi’s current situation without any complaints, then told some interesting stories about Dezi. She incidentally talked about how Dezi and Zayn got along. Finally, she left with Dezi in the afternoon.
Monday was the first day of Lindsey's employment at Hemera. Shaun had sent a notice to the staff of Hemera in advance, so early Monday morning, Lindsey was welcomed by everyone.
Lindsey initially thought that it would just be the Consulting Department, so she could just get to know everyone in the meantime. She did not expect Shaun to personally walk her into the building and meet people from other departments.
Back when Lindsey was working in Hemera, Lydia took care of her. Lindsey never thought that after so long, she would still be able to see her old friend.
Seeing Lydia again, Lindsey could not control herself from recalling the days when Grandpa Guggenheim was still alive and when Jenny Lenig was always going against her. She could not help but think about the times when Zayn hated her and when her colleagues in Hemera targeted her.
Looking back, it all seemed like something that happened in her previous life.
Both of them had some complex emotions, but it was obviously not a good time to exchange pleasantries in front of their boss.
There was no doubt about Lydia's capabilities. Lindsey even felt that her role as a consultant compared to Lydia's qualifications was too far behind.
"Since you two know each other already, I think you’ll be able to work well together. Well, I have nothing else to say. There will be a meeting at 9:00 am, so remember to come on time."
After saying that, Shaun left with his big-boss-vibes. Once he was far away, Lydia then pulled Lindsey into a large office with great lighting and ventilation that was right next to hers. She smiled and looked at Lindsey. "This is for you! Take a look around. If there is anything that you’re not satisfied with, you can get someone to redesign it."
Lindsey looked around at the modern minimalist office. The light color scheme was very soothing. She shook her head and said, "No, it's all good."
She then smiled at Lydia and suddenly laughed so hard that Lydia was dumbfounded.
After Lindsey regained her senses, Lydia laughed and reached out to pinch Lindsey's cheeks. "What's going on? It's been several years, but I feel that your face hasn't changed much. Your temperament feels a lot more calm and gentle than before though."
