Lindsey comforted Shaun. "Brother, you've helped me and Dezi enough."
This project was the first big project that Shaun handled on his own after he got rid of those corrupt ex-directors of Hemera. He had invested a lot of effort and money into it. Lindsey knew all too well what this meant to Shaun.
However, when it came to Dezi, Lindsey was grateful for what Shaun had done for them.
Lindsey was conflicted and wanted to persuade Shaun to think about the big picture first, while on the other hand, Dezi's smiling face kept tugging at her heartstrings.
Shaun saw Lindsey’s dilemma and patted her shoulder. "You should go ahead with your work. I’ll settle this, don't worry."
Lindsey nodded and left with a heavy heart.
Lindsey's heart was torn for the whole day. In the evening, Soren said that he would pick her up since she did not drive that morning, but he was caught up in something at the last minute, so he got his subordinate to pick Lindsey up.
Lindsey refused and said that she could take a taxi back, but Soren insisted and said that it was not safe. Moreover, she had to pick Dezi up on the way home.
She could not win this argument, so she agreed.
When it was time, Lindsey came downstairs with her bag and saw a man waving at her.
The man was wearing sunglasses and it was a face that Lindsey had never seen before. She looked at the license plate number and it matched the one that Soren sent her. After verifying the driver's name and phone number, she got into the car.
This person did not talk much and Lindsey was dealing with some work on her phone. After getting into the car, she said, "Send me to the kindergarten first."
The driver was silent. Lindsey looked through the rearview mirror and found that the driver was concentrating on the road, so she did not say anything and started to focus on her work. She only raised her head when she felt that it was almost time they reached the kindergarten.
With one glance, Lindsey’s expression changed. "What is this place? Where are you taking me?"
"Ms. Juhl, surely I’m sending you to a nice place. Don't worry, we'll be there soon." The man finally lifted his head and smiled at Lindsey. Although she could not see his eyes, Lindsey still felt creeped out.
She clutched the phone in her hand and stared coldly at the driver. "You're not Soren's man. Who the hell are you?"
The other party did not speak this time and just drove faster.
Lindsey panicked. She knew that Soren's man was switched, but she did not know who this person was and why he was doing this. And now, where exactly was he taking her to?
The scenery outside the window was receding fast and it was getting more secluded. Lindsey's heart was pounding, but she forced herself to calm down. She quickly dialed Soren's number but found that there was no signal on her phone.
The other party's back was to her, but he could see all of Lindsey's movements. He sneered and said, "Ms. Juhl, I advise you not to waste your efforts. It's useless."
"What did you do?" Lindsey asked in a stern voice. The man looked up at her as if she was a fool and did not speak.
Lindsey tried to open the door, but it was locked.
The other party even blocked her phone signal, so how could they leave the door open for her to jump out?
There was a partition between the front and back seats of the car, which meant that Lindsey was now completely trapped in the back seat.
‘Who the hell is he and what does he want to do? Where is he sending me to?’
The driver saw that Lindsey lowered her head and did not speak, then thought that she had completely given up struggling. Thus, he no longer focused on Lindsey and concentrated on the road.
After all, a regular woman would have been scared silly by now.
Lindsey secretly observed the driver. When they were turning a corner, she suddenly poked her hand through the partition and grabbed the man's hair from behind, then tugged on it fiercely.
"Stop the car!" Lindsey shouted.
The man was in pain and was not prepared for Lindsey's sudden attack, so he almost lost his grip on the steering wheel. The speeding car stumbled and made a 100 degree turn on the road. The man managed to stabilize the car so that it did not hit a tree on the roadside.
The man's scalp was being tugged at full force and he had to steady the car. He was furious and could no longer remain calm. He cursed at her and his voice cracked due to the shock. "Crazy b*tch! Let me go or we'll all die!"
Lindsey would never let go. Even though the man freed one hand to pull her hand away and scratched her until her hand was red, she still would not let go. Lindsey did not even notice her voice that was desperate and firm as she said, "Then let’s die together! I won't lose out if I drag someone down with me before I die!"
The man did not expect her to be so crazy. Lindsey exerted more force and the man felt that his scalp was going to be ripped off at any moment.
He was exasperated and wanted to stop first, but in a panic, he stepped on the accelerator by mistake and the car sped up again.
The car was swerving on the road and looked like they were about to crash.
"Let's die together!" Lindsey yelled. She was actually terrified, but it somehow gave her the courage to go all out.
The man was terrified of Lindsey’s madness.
