Lindsey brought a large bag with her, which had their jackets and water bottles that she had prepared for the three of them. She put the bag in the trunk and looked around to make sure that she did not miss anything before she got into the driver’s seat.
After a glance through the rearview mirror, she said uneasily, "Dezi, sit properly. Don't stand on the seat to look back. You might just roll to the bottom of the seat!"
Dezi heard her words and immediately sat properly. He then blinked his large eyes at Lindsey through the rearview mirror acting all innocent, which made Lindsey laugh.
"Lindsey, where are we going?" Sieben’s chin was on the car window. Her side profile looked a little melancholy.
They got to a red light, so Lindsey stopped the car and turned to look at her. “We’re going to Green Lake Park in the suburbs. Sieben, didn’t you say that you wanted to go out?”
When Lindsey told her about the trip two days ago, Sieben was so excited and happy. Why did she look so wilted today?
"Yeah, I really wanna gooooo..." Sieben had a habit of dragging her sentences lately. "But when I left home today, Sorie looked upset..."
Soren was upset?
Lindsey froze for a moment. Just then, the light turned green and she stepped on the gas pedal. She subconsciously asked, "Why is he upset?"
Sieben's fingers traced the gap on the car window and pouted as she said sullenly, "I don't knowwww..."
Lindsey thought back to this morning when Soren dropped Sieben off. He did not seem upset earlier.
Sieben was immersed in her own thoughts. She thought about it for a long time and did not know why Sorie refused to give her kissies in the morning. She scratched her head and did not understand why he was upset.
Green Lake Park was located in the city, but it was on the outskirts of the city. A river that ran through Atlantic City passed through the park. Initially, it was just a small river that ran through the middle of the park, but after a while, due to soil erosion, it turned into a small lake. The state government then created a park around the lake that became today's Green Lake Park.
Lindsey bought several maps at the time and compared several large and small parks. Considering that the purpose of this field trip was for the kids to be in nature, Lindsey finally chose the least modified Green Lake Park. It took an hour for them to reach the place.
It was already spring. At this time of year, grass began to grow and the willow trees sprouted with fresh green leaves, which lifted everyone’s mood.
After picking a place, Lindsey parked the car nearby. Dezi and Sieben also helped her with the bags.
"Spread out the mat on the ground. Yup, like that." Lindsey did not do it herself and asked Dezi to set up the mat while she instructed from the side. From time to time, she would snap a few pictures.
Lindsey also brought a portable barbecue grill along with some marinated meat and vegetables prepared by Mrs. Wendy. Mrs. Wendy also packed some cooked food for them. They laid down a big sky-blue picnic mat and the three of them assembled the barbecue grill just as the sun came overhead, which warmed them up.
Although it was Lindsey's first time doing this, she had already done a lot of research before this, so she was not exactly frazzled.
When it was time to start grilling, Sieben took Dezi and went to the side to collect some rocks to play with. Lindsey reminded them not to go near the water and let them have their fun. She brushed on the marinade while she flipped the meat skewers, looking up every now and then to make sure that Dezi and Sieben were still within sight.
"Don't run too far! The food will be ready soon!" Lindsey shouted as she watched Sieben and Dezi’s back.
"Sieben!" The man's voice was tinged with urgency. "If you don't leave now, the people following you will come!"
Sieben obviously did not believe him and stood still. A little struggle drifted across her eyes.
Lindsey's heart was beating incredibly fast. There were two tall shrubs right in front of her, and the sound was coming from behind these trees. Lindsey took a deep breath and clenched her fists, but she did not stop running. She reached out to push the branches out of her view and saw the scene in front of her. Sieben was holding Dezi’s hand and protected him behind her. Opposite them was a young man that Lindsey had not seen before.
The man was in his twenties and had very prominent, well-defined features, but he was not like the usual handsome men that Lindsey had seen before. His looks were in stark contrast with the fierce and vicious look of a bad guy that Lindsey had imagined earlier.
Lindsey's appearance interrupted the delicate balance of the silent confrontation between the two sides. The young man took a look at Lindsey, while Dezi's eyes lit up all of a sudden as he shouted, "Mommy!"
In the eyes of a child, a mother was the most trustworthy person in this world.
The man saw Lindsey rushing over and changed his gaze all of a sudden. He was just testing Sieben’s attitude earlier. This time, he no longer hesitated and went forward to grab Sieben’s wrist as he shouted, “Come with me!”
Lindsey got closer and realized that this man spoke with an accent that was somewhat similar to Arthur's.
Sieben hated strangers touching her. When the man grabbed her wrist, her eyes glazed over, and she struck him at his armpit, trying to force him to let go.
While Lindsey stood there dumbfounded, the two of them had gotten into a fight.
