The woman's voice pulled Zayn back from his thoughts. He did not know when he developed this habit of unintentionally thinking about Lindsey. He obviously hated her...
"What are you doing here?" Zayn asked instead of answering.
"There's an event at the orphanage today. Did you forget that I was also an orphan? I suffered too much as a child, so now I want to do what I can for these children, hoping that they would be better off than me when I was a child."
Jenny's words successfully evoked Zayn's memories of the orphanage when he was young.
He also thought about the little girl that he had always treasured in his heart.
Thinking about her, there was a moment of softness in Zayn's eyes.
"Zayn, it's amazing that we could meet by such a coincidence. Do you want to grab dinner together?" Jenny thought she had impressed Zayn and quickly seized this opportunity.
"I’m busy." Zayn coldly refused.
Jenny's face flashed with disappointment, but she did not dwell on it and said, "Then can you send me back? It's not very convenient to take a taxi from here."
This time, Zayn did not reject her.
When she got into the car, Jenny looked like she was in a good mood. She looked at the quiet man beside her and prodded. "The children now are so adorable! Zayn, do you still remember our times together when we were young? I remember you said you wanted to marry me back then."
The man did not even glance at her and just concentrated on the road.
Jenny lowered her head and looked aggrieved as she said, "Zayn, did I make you mad?"
"No."
Jenny still wanted to say something, but there was a message on her phone. She casually tapped it open and Jane's voice instantly filled out the silent space.
"Ms. Lenig, my friend at Hemera was dismissed a few days ago. I heard it’s because of a team leader from her department. Oh right, her team leader is Ms. Juhl, the one that came to our office before. My friend’s really unlucky and offended her somehow. It seems that Ms. Juhl has a backer in Hemera and she can really hold a grudge. She played some trick and got my friend fired."
Zayn's face turned glum when he heard the phrase, "Her team leader is Ms. Juhl, the one that came to our office before."
There was another message that followed, but Jenny did not click on it. The last message was more than enough to deal with that woman.
“Zayn.” Jenny grabbed Zayn’s arm and said, “I’ve found someone to get a contact in the Hemera Consulting Department for a possible project. I wanted to establish this contact first before telling you, but Jane’s classmate was just fired. Zayn, will you blame me for acting so rashly?"
The man did not answer, but his hands clenched the steering wheel so tightly that she could see the veins popping on his forearm. This was enough to reveal his emotions.
Jenny knew she had achieved her goal and continued to add fuel to the fire. "I think these are probably just coincidences. Although I don't know Ms. Juhl very well, I guess she shouldn’t be such a wicked person if she can be your wife."
Zayn knew that Jenny was doing this on purpose, but he could not quell the rage in his heart. Instead, it became more intense.
He felt that the little expectation he had for Lindsey was a joke. She was a woman who wanted to profiteer off of their marriage, so how good of a person could she be?
"I’ve already kicked her out of the house," Zayn said without an expression. His foot pressed down on the accelerator and the car sped away. It felt as if they were about to fly off the road.
Zayn’s gaze was glued to Lindsey. She was wearing a similar white dress as Jenny and looked like an innocent beauty. Even though he did not like her character, he still could not help but steal a glance at her.
"Let's go." Zayn was slightly stunned when he saw Lindsey and reached out to pat the back of Jenny's hand.
From a third-party point of view, their gestures were very intimate. Especially when coupled with Jenny's words earlier, this action appeared to be quite ambiguous.
Ginny looked at Lindsey, who had turned into a statue beside her, then glanced at the man not far away.
‘Isn't this the President of Denarius we met last time? Why is he here?’
Ginny recalled that Lindsey had the same reaction the last time they saw Zayn. She then looked at the woman next to Zayn and thought that Zayn was showing off his beloved mistress in front of Lindsey.
She secretly pinched Lindsey’s palm, pulling her out of her thoughts, and purposely said loudly, “Lindsey, that guy earlier is pretty decent, huh? He’s rich and handsome, and most importantly, he doesn’t seem like a f*ckboy. Did you see how he looked at you just now? It’s too sweet!”
Ginny said while pulling Lindsey along. She skipped as she followed the couple from behind.
"No...don’t spout nonsense now." Lindsey hastily denied it.
The two of them were approached by someone during dinner and that man had asked for Lindsey’s number, but she refused.
In fact, she was unwilling to use this trick in front of Zayn and Jenny because she knew that Zayn did not care about her. Jenny also had Zayn's love, so she would not care either.
"I think he’s pretty nice. You guys should see where it leads and if you really get together, you better not forget me!" Ginny hugged Lindsey's arm, talking as if Lindsey really had something going on with that stranger.
