Lindsey's wounds were not serious, but because her body was weak, she still lost a little too much blood.
After Lindsey was in a coma for three consecutive days, Zayn finally could not bear it any longer and asked the attending doctor what was happening.
"I told you right after the surgery that the patient's will to live isn’t very strong, so she may take some time to wake up."
"Then how long will it take for her to wake up?" Zayn squeezed out the last bit of his patience.
"That’s hard to say." The attending doctor spoke his mind, but seeing the man’s increasingly sunken face in front of him, he hastily added, "You can try getting the patient's most important person to talk to the patient to stimulate the patient's will to live."
Zayn froze.
He had been in the ward with Lindsey these days, even having Quentin deliver his documents to the hospital. Yet Lindsey did not show any signs of waking up. Did it mean that in her heart, he was not important at all?
His heart felt like it was being clutched.
The attending doctor watched the young president leave in a daze and suddenly wondered if he had said the wrong thing.
Zayn returned to the ward as Mrs. Wendy was taking care of Lindsey. When she saw him enter, she stood up to offer him a seat.
Minus the overly pale face, Lindsey looked like she was sound asleep.
Zayn held one of her hands and kissed it gently, then made up his mind.
"Aunt Wendy, I won’t be coming over in the next few days. I'll make some arrangements here. Please take care of her."
Mrs. Wendy was stunned. Zayn had never been much of a talker. This was the first time he spoke so much to her and it was to say that he would not be staying.
"But Young Master, the Young Madam is not awake yet." Mrs. Wendy said.
"Yeah, I have other things to do. Take good care of her."
After saying that, Zayn got up from the bedside and strode out of the ward as if he was fleeing.
No one noticed that Lindsey's eyelashes trembled as she laid on the bed.
Mrs. Wendy looked at the laptop and the pile of documents on the table, then she sighed and called Quentin to pick them up.
Shaun Juhl had long returned from Salem City. He guessed that Zayn had something to do with Lindsey's sudden disappearance and even reported it to the police. However, Zayn was a powerful man and Lindsey was indeed his legal wife, so even the police could not do anything about it.
When Shaun returned to Atlantic City and still did not hear from Lindsey, he grew anxious and finally could not resist going to the Guggenheim mansion to look for her. Just then, he received a call from Zayn's assistant.
"Atlantic City Central Hospital. Ward 903."
The assistant only said this before hanging up. Shaun called again, but no one answered.
His heart was pounding and he had a hunch that this was related to Lindsey, so he left his work behind and drove to Central Hospital.
Even though the ninth floor was heavily guarded, Shaun's journey was unhindered.
When Shaun saw the girl lying on the bed through the glass window on the door, his heart suddenly stopped.
Mrs. Wendy looked at the young man standing at the door of the ward and asked gently, "Sir, is something wrong?"
"Lindsey, she..." His throat was suddenly so dry that he could not speak.
"Are you here to visit Young Madam? Please, come in." Mrs. Wendy said politely, but she did not mention why Lindsey was lying here.
The ward was warmly decorated and Shaun knew at first glance that this was Zayn’s doing.
"Young Master?" Mrs. Wendy turned her head and saw that the person who came was actually Zayn.
He reached out and signaled for her to be quiet. Even though he knew full well that Lindsey could not hear him, Zayn still walked over gently.
The man sat down next to the bed and reached out to take Lindsey's hand that was out of the blanket.
Lindsey looked to be thinner than when she was at the Guggenheim mansion. Her figure only made a small bump from the blanket where she was wrapped tightly in.
Mrs. Wendy sighed and closed the door as she walked out.
Zayn stayed for a short while and walked out in less than an hour, then gestured for Mrs. Wendy to go back in.
Zayn turned around. The hospital's corridor light shone on the man's handsome face and Mrs. Wendy felt that he had lost a lot of weight.
Mr. Juhl came over every day and Mrs. Wendy could tell what his feelings were for Lindsey. She could not help but feel anxious and in the end, she let out a sigh and said, “Young Master, girls like to be flattered. You should take care of yourself so that you can take good care of Young Madam when she wakes up.”
Zayn froze for a second, then finally, he nodded his head and strode away. His back looked quite lonely.
"Sigh." Mrs. Wendy only felt troubled.
Mrs. Wendy would sleep at the hospital with Lindsey at night. When she turned around and opened the door to walk in, her eyes met with the woman lying on the hospital bed.
"Young Madam!" Mrs. Wendy was surprised and elated. "You’re awake! How do you feel? It's great that you're awake. Let me get you a doctor."
Mrs. Wendy cried tears of joy. Lindsey had been lying in bed for so many days that even the doctor started to feel worried. Now that she was finally awake, how could she not be overjoyed?
After notifying the doctor and nurses, Mrs. Wendy instantly thought of Zayn, who had just left.
