Shaun found a cafe nearby and simply ordered two drinks as they were not really in the mood to drink. Shaun's eyes looked like they were burning to say something, but in the end, he just lowered his head.
Lindsey laughed and said, "Shaun, what are you doing?"
Shaun lifted his head and had a complex emotion in his eyes. "Linds, did you go to Zayn Guggenheim because of me?"
Lindsey bit her lip and did not say anything.
She did not admit nor deny it. Such an attitude made Shaun's heart contract all of a sudden.
Lindsey could see the suffering in Shaun’s eyes. Nevertheless, she did not want to lie to him and lying might not even work.
"Shaun, you’re one of the reasons. There are other reasons too, so don’t think too much about it."
"Linds, I’m sorry I couldn’t be of any help." As he said this, Shaun let out a bitter laugh and added, "I seem to be saying this a lot. Why does it have to be like this every time we encounter such a thing? I would’ve loved to protect you."
‘But you’re the one who protects me every time.’
Shaun had already gotten someone to prove that the photos were fake and he was also ready to face Zayn head-on, but before he could do anything, Lindsey had already helped him solve all his problems.
"You’ve already helped me a lot." Lindsey smiled and said, "Let's not talk about this. How are you doing at the company? They're not giving you a hard time anymore, right?"
Shaun shook his head and said, "Those people are just afraid of offending Denarius. Once the threat is eliminated, they naturally won’t make things difficult for me anymore."
"That's good." Lindsey smiled in relief.
"Seeing you like this makes me feel so frustrated." Shaun smiled bitterly.
Lindsey did not know what to say to that, so she simply smiled.
Ever since Lindsey knew of Shaun’s feelings for her and that his help was not as simple as that between friends, she also wished she could help him in return.
The two people who had been following Lindsey were still standing at the door, watching their every move dutifully.
Shaun pointed at them. "Is this the price?"
Lindsey was stunned. "Huh?"
"Is this the price you have to pay for getting Zayn's help?" Shaun laid it out simply.
He did not wait for Lindsey to answer and continued, "Linds, I can help you get a divorce."
‘As long as you want to divorce him, I’ll help you no matter what it takes.’
"Shaun!" Lindsey was surprised, but the look on Shaun's face was incomparably serious.
She subconsciously glanced back at the two people at the door and pondered slightly, but finally, she shook her head.
"Shaun, there's no need."
"Why?"
His eager tone revealed Shaun's inner emotions.
Lindsey took a deep breath before she looked at the man in front of her and said, "Shaun, I do want a divorce, but what you probably don’t know is that marrying Zayn Guggenheim was my dream since I was young."
She smiled and continued, "So, even if I’m getting a divorce, I don't want a third party to help me."
The hope in Shaun's eyes shattered and was eventually crushed to dust when he heard her say "a third party".
Shaun laughed at himself in his heart. When he found out that Lindsey went to Zayn because of him, he even thought that no matter how minute, she might have some feelings towards him that were beyond that of friends or family.
Now it seemed that he was really overthinking it.
Shaun chuckled bitterly and said, “Linds, why can’t you give me the slightest bit of hope?”
Lindsey smiled without a trace of sadness.
On the other side, Zayn was still thinking about what Lindsey meant by her childhood dream.
He had never met Lindsey when he was young, so why did she want to marry him since she was young?
His memories when he was a child flashed by and Zayn did not get to dwell on it before another possibility jumped into his mind. That so-called dream was the idea of marrying him for money, which had been instilled in her since she was a child.
If that was the case, then Lindsey was especially ambitious since she was young.
Zayn’s face instantly turned cold again.
Lindsey was unaware that the one phrase she said put Zayn in such a quandary.
Just then, she received a call from Ginny.
"What's wrong? Why did you suddenly quit? Why is your phone switched off?" Lindsey frowned and asked when she answered the phone.
Ginny chattered over the phone and said after a while, “Let’s meet up and talk more. How’s tomorrow at 7:00 pm sound? You can decide on the venue.”
Since Zayn did not restrict her freedom, Lindsey agreed without hesitation.
For the past two days, Lindsey did not see Zayn and did not tell him where she was going. After all, her two shadows would always report back to him anyway.
When Lindsey met Ginny, Ginny looked at the two people following Lindsey and asked in surprise, "Tsk tsk...You really behave like a rich man’s wife now. I always thought you’d be the same as before since you kept your last name and your face."
Lindsey knew that Ginny was just teasing her and laughed. “Of course I kept my face!”
Ginny leaned forward and hugged Lindsey’s neck as she said, “What a pity. A beauty like you is married to a walking ice sculpture.”
Lindsey gently smacked her, but Ginny took advantage of the situation to pinch Lindsey's fingers, bringing them closer as she said, "I'll help you to get rid of them."
Lindsey was stunned, but Ginny immediately put her plan into action and said, "I need to pee. I forgot to go before leaving the house just now. Let's go to that cybercafe over there. Hurry! I can't hold it any longer!"
