Lindsey slept until late morning. She did not have a serious hangover. Except for a little headache, Lindsey did not feel any discomfort.
The room was empty. After drinking a cocktail last night, Lindsey blacked out and she could not remember how she got back.
It was probably the two bodyguards who sent her back.
However, when she saw hickeys all over her body, she was dumbfounded.
There was still a lingering sensuous scent in the room. Lindsey reached out to cover her face and hid under the covers again.
‘What the hell happened?’
Fortunately, Zayn had left a long time ago, otherwise, she would have been so ashamed that she would have wanted to kill herself.
After washing up, Lindsey was about to ask Lina and Ann about her drunken behavior last night when her phone rang.
"Lindsey, did you have a good time last night?" Ginny's voice was gloating.
Lindsey held her forehead and asked, "What the hell happened?"
"Hahahaha! You were drunk and Zayn took you back. Sigh… seeing someone hug her husband while crying last night makes a single woman like me feel so lonely."
"No way..." Lindsey did not believe Ginny. How could she hug Zayn and cry?
"If you don’t believe me, you can check the bar’s CCTV." Ginny smiled mischievously and continued, "Oh right, that domineering president of yours even coaxed you. OMG...I got goosebumps just thinking about it! If I didn’t see it for myself, I never would’ve imagined Zayn Guggenheim could comfort someone.”
Lindsey was shocked by Ginny’s account. Zayn coaxed her? How was that possible?
However, a few blurry images flashed across Lindsey’s mind, but she could not remember exactly what they were.
After teasing her enough and knowing that she must be so ashamed at the moment, Ginny became serious again.
"Lindsey, actually...I think that Zayn rather loves you."
"Impossible." Lindsey smiled bitterly and continued, "If you say he hates me, I believe it. Him loving me is never going to happen."
"Why is it impossible?" Ginny asked her back and added, "The way a man looks at a woman can’t be faked. The way he looked at you is sickly-sweet.
"Oh, there's more! His scandal with Jenny Lenig was all fake," Ginny said excitedly.
Lindsey was stunned and asked, "How would you know?"
"Of course I’d know! That’s because he stayed at my place that night!"
Lindsey was dumbfounded. "What did you say? He..."
"No no." Ginny hurriedly interrupted her and continued, "I don't mean that. Don’t you remember that you still have a room at my place? When he barged into my house that day, he came in and straightaway asked which one is your room. After I told him, he went in, shut the door, and stayed there all night. God, it almost scared me to death! Plus, that assistant of his took my phone and cut off my internet to keep me from telling you.
"I don't know why he didn't go back to your house. This man is too scary, but Lindsey, I can tell that his feelings for you are real."
Lindsey had completely lost track of what Ginny said later because her mind was replaying that sentence. Zayn did not stay with Jenny Lenig nor did he return home. Instead, he had gone to her old room.
She suddenly thought of something and hung up the phone, then pulled the door open and rushed downstairs.
Mrs. Wendy was cleaning up downstairs when Lindsey grabbed her elbow and asked hurriedly, “Aunt Wendy, did Zayn come home from the 5th till the 18th?”
Mrs. Wendy was shocked by the expression on Lindsey’s face and pondered for a moment before nodding. "No, he didn’t. He wasn’t home at all."
After she said that, she saw Lindsey’s expression change slightly, so she quickly added, “But if he’s not at home, he stays at the office and doesn’t go anywhere else. Lindsey, don’t believe those rumors. They just don’t want you both to be happy together.”
The man's voice was still cold.
Lindsey's words were suddenly stuck in her throat.
How was she going to say it? Should she ask Zayn directly if he liked her? Or should she beat around the bush and ask why he stayed over at Ginny’s place?
She was speechless for a long time while he waited patiently. After a while, Zayn could no longer stand the silence and asked, “What’s the matter?”
Although his voice was distant and cold, the long wait earlier clearly showed his patience.
Lindsey paused before saying, "Oh, it’s nothing."
Even though she said this, Zayn did not believe her. However, he went along with her and said, "Whatever it is, tell me when I get home in the evening."
After hanging up the phone, Lindsey calmed her breathing.
She thought about all the things Zayn had done for her.
What jumped into her mind was still all the bad things he did to her, one after another.
However, what followed was his kindness towards her, his patience, and the tenderness he gave her.
The suffocating feeling in her chest surged again. Lindsey thought that she still could not forgive Zayn for the many things he did. If they truly liked each other, then perhaps she could be upfront and tell him about that childhood agreement they made back then. Then, the two of them could try to live together harmoniously like most married couples.
Lindsey fidgeted as she watched the hour hand past 6:00 pm. Her heart almost jumped out with anxiety.
The television was showing the breaking news and Lindsey's face instantly turned pale when she saw it.
