Wayne genuinely cared for Cassidy and was determined to care for her.

His wife, Briley Perkins, was equally relieved to see Cassidy return safely. She had feared that if anything were to happen, Wayne might blame it on her for some time.

Now that Cassidy was back safe and sound, she couldn't help but complain, "What were you thinking when you ran away? Those who don't know better might think I mistreated you! While you were out enjoying your freedom, I was practically dying from feeling wronged!"

"Enough! Now that Cassidy's back, stop talking!" Wayne snapped.

Shannon and the accompanying police officer exchanged glances and immediately understood why Cassidy had wanted to leave.

Though Wayne was kind, Cassidy likely felt that staying with him would fuel more arguments between him and Briley. She'd rather not stay if her presence caused constant strife.

Shannon cut them off. "Stop fighting. Cassidy won't be staying with you. We've arranged the paperwork, and she'll be leaving Arenvale with us."

She turned to Wayne and added, "Cassidy has found an excellent adoptive guardian. They have outstanding qualities and can provide her with a comfortable life."

In disbelief, Wayne turned to Cassidy for confirmation, while Briley cast a glance at Cassidy's new expensive-looking clothes. She opened her mouth to say something but ended up holding back under Wayne's withering glare.

Since Cassidy expressed her wish to be adopted, Wayne accepted it though reluctant. But before letting her leave, he wanted her to stay for one last meal and a final moment of familial bonding as uncle and niece.

Cassidy agreed while Shannon and the others had no objections. After leaving the family, they decided to kill time by taking Heston to a nearby shopping mall.

It was Heston's first time shopping. His eyes lit up with curiosity, and he stopped to stare at everything. When they passed a children's clothing store, he froze in place and was fixated.

Shannon noticed his longing gaze and said, "Go in and pick something. Once you start earning money, you can pay me back."

Though Heston had been told he needed to earn money, he didn't quite understand how. Still, he believed he could since they promised.
