Wiping her mouth with the back of her hand, she looked to Shannon and declared, "Three more rounds. If I win today, you will lend me that little bell you wear on your wrist."

She was pointing at Shannon's soul bell, bound to her wrist.

Elowen had noticed it days ago. Though it had never once made a sound, something about it carried a faint, familiar presence. Either way, her curiosity had been piqued.

Shannon hadn't expected her to go straight for the soul bell. Recalling what Reuben had once told her about its significance, she opened her mouth to refuse, only for Benjamin to interrupt.

"That bell is not something she can lend you. If it's the bell you want, I can have the Steward's Office craft you a hundred different ones."

After all, he was the King, so saying the word was all it took.
