"The coffee's fine. I came to give you this," Shannon said and handed him a protective talisman.

Hank's eyes lit up. "You came just to give me a talisman?"

Shannon glanced at him. "I had a meeting nearby, so I brought it along."

She paused and explained, "You transferred 20 thousand dollars to me. Consider this talisman as payment for that."

Hank blinked and was momentarily stunned before remembering that he did transfer her some money. It happened when Cecily and Scott had gotten into trouble in the classroom building, and Shannon was the one who'd saved them.

Back then, Shannon had gotten Cecily to send her 30 thousand dollars as a fee, but Hank had felt bad and transferred her 50 thousand dollars.

Hank waved him off, and the person walked away, laughing.

Shannon kept her gaze on the man's retreating figure. The amulet in her bag faintly emitted a response, and she asked after a moment, "Are you close to him?"
