Scott froze for a moment before realizing what Shannon meant.

He sliced his fingertip with the utility knife and winced in sharp pain, but he wasted no time stabbing the blood-coated utility knife into the evil spirit again.

The spirit had been unfazed until the wound began to burn. It retreated in terror and screamed.

Seeing this, Calvin followed suit and slashed his palm to help Shannon ward off the evil spirits. Meanwhile, Skylar and Triston were holding their ground though with some difficulty.

As the evil spirits began to gather once more, Skylar stopped them, while Shannon drew a talisman in the void with her amulet. "Heed my call, O' spirits of all. Death shall loom, and repel!"

Along with her shout, a massive talisman materialized in the air. As she waved, golden light fused with the talisman before it flew straight at the horde of evil spirits.

The evil spirits screamed as the massive talisman sent them scattering into the surrounding darkness.

Both Skylar and Triston gawked at Shannon with astonishment. Drawing talismans in the void was a feat not even Triston could manage.

He started to wonder if Shannon was really a newcomer. How could a newcomer like her be more skilled than a graduate like him? And what was with that golden light?

The others were still recovering from the spectacle when Shannon staggered and was drained of spiritual energy. Calvin moved to catch her, but Scott was quicker.

Lying in Scott's arms, Shannon looked up at his dirt-streaked yet worried face and couldn't help but smile at how he'd wielded the utility knife to protect her.
