After Xavier took over Nova Group, he encountered all sorts of people. He could clearly see through Lily’s indifference. 

“What’s wrong?” Feeling his gaze on her, Lily shifted uncomfortably.

His voice was soft, yet carried a subtle weight. His cool fingers brushed across her cheek, sending a tingling sensation through her. 

Lily hesitated for a moment before standing up with a faint smile. “I’ll go make it then.” Then, she walked toward the stairs without hesitation. 

Xavier’s hand froze in mid–air. He watched her retreating figure, and his eyebrows raised slightly in surprise.

He had used his methods to make her give up on the divorce, and it was normal for her to have emotions about it, but she should be grateful that he still had some interest in her.

Unaware that this was a test, Lily simply didn’t want to argue. In her current state, she didn’t have the luxury of expressing her emotions or refusing 

him freely.

He really enjoys the dishes you make!” 

Lily was caught off guard by Emma’s sudden comment while she was in the middle of eating. She couldn’t swallow and couldn’t spit it out, so she ended up choking. 

She quickly covered her mouth and turned away, coughing 

“Ah! Let me get yo 

get you some soup to help!” Emma exclaimed, rushing back to the kitchen. 

Xavier set down his utensils and placed his large hand gently on her back, patting her comfortingly. 

Lily gently pushed Xavier’s arm away as she recovered and straightened up. “It’s fine.” 

“Drink some soup!” Emma placed a bowl of seafood soup in front of her. “I wasn’t serious about it. Why such a strong reaction, Mrs. Fulton?” 

“Thank you.” Lily avoided responding directly, sipping the soup. 

Xavier leaned back in his chair, his hand resting casually on Lily’s back, his posture implying a closeness between them. 

“You still haven’t answered Emma’s question” 

Lily, holding the soup spoon, turned to look at him. Her eyes were still damp from the choking fit. Her cheeks were rosy, pale with a hint of pink, a kind of awkward beauty 

“Because I want to work,” she replied, knowing Emma had only spoken casually, but Xavier genuinely wanted an explanation. 

“Mrs. Fulton is young. She wants to build a career and not just focus on the family. Many women are like that these days,” Emma said, unaware of how her words subtly shifted the dynamic between Lily and Xavier.
