However, no matter how gentle Xavier was, Lily still grew tired. 

Afterward, without waiting for him to urge her, she took the medicine from the nightstand and swallowed it. 

She watched him, trying to memorize how he looked at her at that moment, hoping it would help her move on faster and numb her heart. 

Once she had drunk some water, she parted her lips slightly to show him the medicine had gone down 

Xavier became increasingly pleased with her attentiveness. 

After taking a shower, he embraced her from behind. His chin rested on her neck, and his faint breath brushed against her delicate skin. 

She stiffened, her body tense. He assumed she wasn’t used to it, considering he hadn’t held her like this before, 

That evening, sleep eluded her, her thoughts tangled and restless. 

With her new car, she no longer had to take the morning bus to work, so she decided not to ask Emma to come over that day. 

After getting up, she made a simple breakfast for both of them. They ate together and then left for work. 

The two Maybachs drove out of the villa, one after the other. Lily’s car was much smaller than Xavier’s. 

Her car led the way, with Xavier’s following closely behind. As they neared the intersection toward the city center, the traffic thickened, and the crowds 

grew. 

Lily’s car stopped in the left–turn lane while Xavier’s car continued straight. When the light turned green, both pressed the gas pedal simultaneously, driving in different directions 

By 7:40 am, Lily had parked her car on the street next to Lupier and walked to the office. She arrived just on time. 

“Lily!” Queenie called out, poking her head around the corner. “Ms. Cooper wants to see you. She looks pretty upset.” 

Lily put down her bag, removed her coat, and straightened her black shirt. “Did she say what it’s about? 

Queenie shook her head, pursing her lips. “She’s looking for you, so it can’t be anything good.” 

“Got it, thanks.” Lily smiled and headed toward Nadia’s office. 

Apart from Nadia, there were two other senior designers at Lupier. In the design department, only the three of them had private offices.

Nadia was the youngest and most capable among them, so her office was the largest. 

Lily knocked on the door. After hearing “Come in“, she opened the door and stepped inside. 

“Ms. Cooper, you wanted to see me?” She closed the door behind her and stood up straight facing the desk. 

“The design draft for Ms. Lynde–you gave it to her, right? Nadia crossed her arms and looked at her. 

“Yes,” Lily nodded. “Was there something wrong with it?” 

Nadia hadn’t intended to make things difficult for her, especially since Lily had a direct connection with Terence. If things escalated, Nadia risked her own job, and she knew how to weigh the consequences. 

But when she saw the design draft forwarded by Sarah, she couldn’t hold back any longer. 

“What’s your problem with Ms. Lynde? Are you cursing her or something?”
