Chapter 159 

The person on the other end of the line remained silent. Lily took a look at the call screen to confirm the call was still connected. She spoke again, “It You re not going to say anything, I’ll take that as your agreement.” 

Given Sarah’s proud nature, there was no way she would agree so easily when being threatened by Lily. So the stubborn, long silence was within expectations. 

Still, Lily thought that even if Sarah agreed, she would still throw something ridiculous at her. Instead, the person allowed Lily to finish talking before they hung up on her with a loud “click” without saying a word. 

Lily wondered if Sarah was on a video call with Xavier and couldn’t say much. 

A strange feeling arose in Lily’s chest. This kind of silent acceptance of defeat was unlike Sarah’s character. Lily frowned lightly, and her delicate features were tinged with a hint of confusion. 

Suddenly, the sound of footsteps from upstairs pulled her out of her thoughts. She looked up and saw Xavier coming downstairs. 

Although there was some weariness evident on his face after a sleepless night, Xavier still exuded an undeniably powerful presence. Lily set down her phone, hugged her knees, and continued looking at her designs, pretending she hadn’t seen him come down. 

Xavier had intended to make himself a cup of coffee to refresh himself, and he headed toward the coffee machine. But he found Lily’s silence unsettling. and he turned slightly to see her sitting by the floor–to–ceiling window with a somber expression on her face. 

“Make me a cup of coffee and bring it upstairs,” Xavier commanded as he leaned against the kitchen island with his hands propped on the counter. He assumed that Lily wasn’t earning much from her new job, and yet here she was, getting increasingly lazy. 

He had worked hard throughout the night, and she hadn’t even shown the slightest concern. 

Lily stayed still in her spot and met his gaze. “Make it and bring it upstairs yourself. That way, I won’t interrupt your work and upset you again.” 

Xavier let out a loud, incredulous laugh and walked around the kitchen island toward her. He stood over Lily while she remained seated, her line of sight naturally leveled with his waist. 

He bent down and gripped her chin, his displeasure seemingly greater than hers. “Why don’t you seem as temperamental when you were at an exhibition all day with another man?” 

Lily froze as she wondered if Xavier knew she had gone to an exhibition with Terence 

“I was only attending an exhibition openly, it’s nothing compared to the amount of time you have spent alone with Ms. Lynde,” 

Lily was unwilling to back down, and her eyes reflected Xavier’s increasingly angry features. 

He gritted his teeth, his jawline clear and tense. “We were working. What about the both of you?” 

Lily knew he would always use work to justify and cover up his sordid affair with Sarah. By comparison, it was more outrageous than her day out with Terence at the exhibition. 

“We are just friends,” Lily said. In Xavier’s eyes, Lily’s confidence was nothing but a cover–up.
