Chapter 158 

“You’ve chased Emma away. Wouldn’t it be disappointing to you if I went to the office?” Xavier gave Lily a teasing glance. He had a playful smile on his face, as though he could see right through her subtle act of playing hard to get. 

“When did I chase Emma away? Lily frowned. Her clear, bright eyes reflected the sharp, handsome features of the man before her. 

Xavier chose not to call her out on her bluff when she didn’t admit to it. He sald instead, “I’m not going to the office tomorrow, but I have meetings online. I’ll be very busy.” 

“Understood,” Lily said. Xavier never listened to explanations, and she didn’t bother giving one. 

With the blizzard in Jadeford, Lupier announced through the company email that everyone could work from home. 

That night, Xavier spent the entire time at an international conference. 

When Lily woke up the next morning, the spot beside her was cold. Xavier was still busy with work in his study. 

She got up from bed, washed up, and went downstairs to make breakfast. She waited for a while after she was done with preparations, but Xavier didn’t come out of the study. 

Lily figured he was probably still busy, but after working all night, Xavier had to be hungry. 

She worried that his body wouldn’t be able to handle it, and it could affect his mood if he felt unwell. Xavier feeling unwell meant it would impact her chances of getting the money she wanted to ask for. 

She carried a tray of breakfast upstairs and knocked on the study door before entering. 

In the past two years, Xavier rarely worked from home. Whenever he did, Lily had been especially happy because she rarely had the chance to see him work. She had thought then that Xavier was even more captivating when he was deeply focused on his work. 

She would seize the chance to bring him coffee, fruits, or milk–anything to make an excuse to visit the study. Lily would always knock lightly as she had been worried she might disrupt his meetings and also to let him know she was coming in. 

Xavier didn’t particularly like her entering his office, and he would have a stern expression on whenever she did. Yet, she couldn’t help herself and always found joy in doing so. 

But that was in the past 

Today, if she didn’t need something from him, she wouldn’t choose to bother him. The study’s curtains were drawn, and the desk lamp cast a warm glow, enveloping Xavier in its light. The gold–rimmed glasses he wore reflected the light and made it difficult to see the emotions in his eyes. Before Lily could even set the tray of breakfast down, he suddenly raised his head and scolded in an icy tone, “Get out!” 

Lily froze for a moment, but she stubbornly placed the tray down before turning to leave. Xavier’s voice echoed in her ears as she closed the door. His attitude was worse than usual 

She took a deep breath and went downstairs to have her breakfast. After that, she placed a small table next to the floor–to–ceiling window. She then flipped through her old award–winning designs on her laptop. 

Suddenly, her phone on the floor buzzed, and it was a photo sent from an unknown number. The photo was a collage of a few screenshots of Xavier in a video call with Sarah. 

In the images, Sarah was smiling sweetly while Xavier looked down with a faint smile tugging at the corner of his lips. 

There were two other photos of Xavier working intently while Sarah watched him, lovingly holding her cat.
