But whenever Lily thought about the divorce, she couldn’t help but feel an inexplicable heaviness in her chest. 

She didn’t have many opinions about the Devereux family’s competition with the Fultons over business. If someone had the money to invest, no one could stop them from doing so. Similarly, only those with the ability could claim a plece of the pic. 

Even without the Devereux family, the Clarks or another group could enter the real estate market too. 

Although Xavier said he would take Lily out in the afternoon, she took the entire day off. 

When Lily woke up the next morning, Xavier had already left for his office. She began preparing for the second round of the Avelon Designs Competition, 

In the second round, half of the 500 contestants would be eliminated. It was also a requirement for the contestants to provide their professional aliases with their submissions. 

Lily wasn’t good at choosing names, so she simply used “Layla“. 

After submitting her professional alias for approval, she followed the competition’s requirements and looked up similar design drafts for inspiration. 

At 2:00 p.m., Xavier sent her an address. There was no explanation, but Lily knew he was telling her to get there on her own. 

She changed into a pair of regular jeans, a black turtleneck, and her thickest down jacket. She drove straight to the destination. The snow on the roads had melted, leaving only a thin layer of ice. 

Lily drove very slowly. It took her an hour and a half to reach the place when the journey normally would have just taken 40 minutes. 

In Elician Tea Room, Lily stood in the lobby of the hotel, looking for the tea room’s direction for a while, before texting Xavier to confirm that she hadn’t gone to the wrong place. 

Whenever he had business meetings or social gatherings, they were usually held at places like clubs or restaurants. Plus, Xavier didn’t like tea. 

Xavier replied to her message, “Second floor, Room 3.” 

She put her phone away and followed his directions. Although it was a tea room, all the private rooms had chess tables and poker tables. There were also writing desks for novelists who frequented here for inspiration and a change of scenery,

A tea room staff led her to Room 3 and opened the door after a quick knock. “Ms. Joyner, please.”

table was directly facing the door, where Shane and Terence’s father, Richard Devereux, sat facing each other. 

Behind them, at the chess table, were Xavier and Terence. And on the other side of the room at a small table were Tamara and Terence’s mother, Marika Palmer. 

The group all looked toward the door at the same time.
