Revier’s voice carried a hint of teasing, and he didn’t make any effort to lower his tone. Everyone in the private room could hear him, and Lily immediately felt extremely awloward. 

She understood Xavier’s intention of bringing her here, which was to assert his dominance over her. Xavier wanted to put on a show in front of Terence, making it appear as though he and Lily had a very loving relationship. 

Lily paused and corrected herself. Xavier intended to show that she was the one who was devoted to him. But with the elders of both families in the roon, the situation was extremely embarrassing for her. 

She stood frozen on the spot with her toes curled up in unease. Her expression was tense and extremely uncomfortable. 

“Sut here.” Xavier patted the spot beside him. The mahogany bench could fit two people, but it would be cramped. He looked at her with a smile in his eyes, as if he was an affectionate husband to her. 

But Lily felt disturbed and flustered. Before she could even sit down, she heard Marika say to Tamara laughingly. “They have such a great relationship. Terence, however, is making me worried. He’s still not married although he’s about the same age as Xavier.” 

Tamara wasn’t good at these kinds of conversations. She awkwardly said, “It’s completely normal for the younger ones to focus on their careers first.” Marika rolled her eyes, and she took the opportunity to bring up the matter on her mind. She said, “Career can’t carry on the family line, can it? Does it ever end once you get busy? 

“The shareholders at Devereux Group are not satisfied with him. They forced him to enter the real estate industry right after he took over.” 

Lily realized the meeting between the two families was actually to discuss this matter. She had no understanding of their business, so she simply sat beside Xavier. She hoped that by cooperating with him, he would be happy, and give her her living expenses. 

She sat close to him and could feel the firm, well–built muscles of his arm. Her loose hair draped over his elbow, passing through his white shirt and resting on his skin. It was a little prickly, and Xavier raised an eyebrow, subtly observing Terence’s expression 

Terence only took a look at Lilly and turned his attention back to the chessboard in front of him. Other than the polite nod of acknowledgment when Lily first entered, there was no further eye contact between them. 

The three of them sat in silence as they listened to Marika’s complaints about Terence’s single status. Marika then brought up work again. Tamara wasn’t concerned about the business in the country. Her priorities were the ones abroad, so she didn’t respond to Marika. 

Marika had no choice but to be more direct, and asked, “Tamara, do you think Terence is cut out for the real estate business?” 

The Devereux family didn’t want to make enemies. They were trying to test the waters with the Fultons before deciding on whether they would enter the real estate business. 

Shane took a sip of tea and looked at Xavier. After all, he was in charge of Nova Group.

“No plans,” Terence replied. His fingers gripped onto a chess piece, but his gaze was on the chess board, and he made no move.
