It felt terrible. It felt as if stepping out as Xavier’s wife in public was a reward from Xavier. It was just a casual remark when Lilly asked if he was jealous. 

but his response felt like a knife that cut right into her heart, and it made her feel incredibly sloward. Her face reddened and paled, then she turned green as her emotions rolled within her. 

Xavier seemned unsatisfied. He enjoyed the sense of control over her. He took a card out of his pocket and handed it to Lily. 

“I’m not happy with Mrs, Fulton’s performance tonight, so the allowance will be halved.” 

“You – “Lily’s throat tightened, and tears almost formed in her eyes, but she forced them back. 

“If you’re not happy, then resign. Come back and be my obedient wife,” Xavier sald very seriously as he placed the card in her palm. 

For some reason, he genuinely wanted her to return to the old days. He wanted the docile and obedient wife from back then, and not the one now who made him feel uncomfortable at every turn. He didn’t think he was being unreasonable when he saw her on the verge of crying 

After all, returning to being his wife was something she should be able to do easily. As long as she was obedient, he would eventually give her a proper 

But Lily refused to listen to him, and she did all sorts of little stunts to be formally recognized. She had no one to blame but herself.. 

Lily didn’t know how she put the card in her pocket. She had to accept his charity with swallowed pride. 

“I can’t send you home. I need to go to the hospital to see Hayden,” Lily said as she reached into her pockets for the car key, ready to get into the car. Suddenly, her hand was empty. 

Xavier hooked the keyring with his fingertip and got into the car first. “I’ll take you there.” 

He sat in the driver’s seat and started the engine. He then gestured for her to get in. 

Lily didn’t mean to leave him behind. At this time, the doctors were still on duty, and she wanted to go pay so she wouldn’t have to take another day off the next day. 

But when she thought about it, it would have been wishful thinking to have Xavier take a cab. She walked around the front of the car, climbed into the passenger seat, bucked her seatbelt, and let him drive. 

At 5:00pm, she arrived at the hospital just as the working hours were ending 

Lily unbuckled her seatbelt and rushed inside, hoping to get in before Xander left. She had wanted to ask him about Hayden’s condition. 

– didn’t have time to say anything to Xavier, but she didn’t need to guess that he wouldn’t wait for her. Lily hurried into the hospital and didn’t notice that Xavier had parked the car by the roadside. 

At the comer of the hospital, Sarah walked out from behind a pillar, wearing a black mask. Her expression darkened when she saw Xavier waiting for Lily in the parked car. 

“Is it really true when you say that the murderer is in this hospital?” Jasmine gripped the railing with both hands and looked up at the hospital building. 

Sarah snapped out of her thoughts, and she turned to Jasmine. She said with certainty, “Of course. He’s on that floor, enjoying the best treatment the hospital can offer. Their family is so rich, yet they only gave you 100 thousand dollars. 

“They made you lose out on the Insurance payout, and both your husband and son are in jail. Are you okay with this? 

“Of course, I’m not okay with this!” Jasmine absolutely did not appreciate the 100 thousand dollars Lily had compensated. 

“If everything had gone according to her plan, she would have received over a million dollars from the Joyner family’s compensation and the insurance peryout combined.
