get Lily to come back right now, and we can go look for Hayden’s attending doctor–Terence took out his phone, but before he could unlock the serisch, Rowan stopped him. 

Rowan spouted nonsense with a straight face and said, “The doctors are all off duty by now. He’s called Hayden Joyner, right? I can check his derails tomorrow, and I’ll contact you immediately if there are any updates or questions ” 

“That’s fine too.” Terence put his phone away. “I won’t disturb your off–hours anymore, then. I’ll see you again.” 

With that, Terence left in a hurry. He had hoped to inform Lily of the good news 

right away. 

He nished to the hospital entrance in time to see Lily hailing a cab by the roadside. And to Lily’s right, a sleek, striking Maybach was parked, with the Talat outline of a tall figure visible inside. 

Terence fell back when he saw the car. As a man, he understood how Xavier would feel. He didn’t want to cause trouble for Lily and turned back toward the hospital parking lot. 

It wasn’t easy to get a cab at the hospital entrance. While Lily walked out, she took out her phone to book a ride. But since it was rush hour, it was difficult to even get an Uber. She tried flagging a cab while waiting 

It wasn’t until the Maybach across the street merged into traffic, made a U–turn, and stopped on her side of the road that she noticed that Xavier hadn’t left. Xavier rolled the window halfway down, and he gestured for her to get in. 

Lily’s mouth hung open in surprise, and the warm breath she exhaled made her lips look rosy. 

Xavier frowned when he saw her frozen on the spot and said, 

“Get in the car.” 

“Coming” Lily opened the door and climbed in. She fastened her seatbelt while she scrutinized Xavier. 

Xavier didn’t notice her strange behavior and drove off 

On the way home, Lily tentatively asked, “You’re not willing to let the Devereux family into the real estate market because of me, are you?” 

y?” Xavier asked her in return, “Are you pleading Terence’s case?” 

Lily quickly shook her head. “I just don’t want to feel guilty.” 

It didn’t matter how close she was to Terence. Lily knew she was in no position to interfere in business matters. 

Whether the Devereux family could venture into real estate depended on their capabilities. She only wanted to be sure that she hadn’t affected the situation in any way. 

Xavier laughed lightly, though it wasn’t clear if he was laughing at her for thinking too highly of herself or for being naive. 

“When you resign from your job, I’ll restore your full allowance. So think about it seriously,” Xavier said. 

Lily turned her head to look out the window. The buildings rushing past seemed far less chaotic than the emotions that clashed within her. Her living expenses had already been slashed by half, and she used a portion of it to pay for Hayden’s medical fees. 

Now she was only left with 150 thousand dollars on her card. She had to take things step by step, and she was sure that things would work out eventually. Everything moving forward heavily depended on Xavier’s mood. 

Lily raised a hand to rub at her stiff face, and she turned around to smile at Xavier. “What would you like for dinner? I’ll cook” 

Xavier glanced at her sideways. He didn’t understand why he wasn’t happy when she kept a stern face, and when she smiled at him like now, his mood didn’t improve either. 

It felt like she was a different person after receiving her living expenses. All she wanted was money. 

He replied indifferently, “Anything is fine.” 

When they got home, Emma had already started preparing dinner. Lily changed her clothes and went into the kitchen to help.
