Xavier exuded an air of arrogance. His face was cold, and he remained silent. He didn’t look like he would apologize, and his expression practically screamed that he had done nothing wrong. 

“Xavier, no matter what it is, Lily is pregnant. You’re not only her husband, but you’re going to be a father as well. You need to take responsibility and can’t just abandon her like that. This is what being a man is about,” Shane said sternly. 

He showed Xavier his disappointment. Shane had always thought that although Xavier lacked tendemess, he would still be a responsible man. Shane didn’t expect Xavier to push for divorce while Lily was pregnant. 

“What?” Xavier’s face darkened instantly. 

Lily, who was out of sorts, became alert immediately and exclaimed, “Pregnant?” 

Hazel, who was observing Xavier, tomed to question Lily when she saw the shock on Xavier’s face, “Lily, didn’t you tell Xavier that you are pregnant?” 

“Who told you I’m pregnant?” Lily immediately understood what had happened when she recalled Hazel’s recent behavior. She had been “diagnosed as pregnant by Hazel. 

“You haven’t had your period for a while, Hazel whispered. “Didn’t you get a check–up?” 

Hazel’s method of confirming a pregnancy was ridiculous. Lily scolded her, “The stress is delaying my period. I’ve been taking medication to regulate it. I’m not pregnant 

Hazel glared at her as if accusing Lily of refusing to admit the truth. 

“I can’t be pregnant!” Lily simply told Hazel “I’ve been on birth control pills. We never wanted children!” 

Speaking softly so that the Fultons wouldn’t overhear and invite more trouble, Lily kept her voice low enough that only Hazel could bear. 

Hazel looked at her for a moment and said proudly, “I knew that long ago. That’s why I switched your pills! You’ll thank me for my foresight later.” 

“You switched…what pills?” Lily tumed pale, and no winter chill could compare to the coldness that Hazel brought to her at that moment. 

The chill spread from her heart to her entire body, draining all color from her lips. Her mind was filled with scenes of the time Hazel visited her house. 

Hazel ignored her and tumed to the Fultons with an apologetic smile. “This is all Lily’s fault. She didn’t tell Navier she was pregnant. Xavier only wanted a divorce because he didn’t know. 

“Now that you do, you wouldn’t go ahead with it, would you, Xavier?” 

Xavier was so speechless that he could only laugh. He wondered how Lily could lie about being pregnant without fear of being caught. He was curious to see how she would manage to come up with a child in a few months to cover up her lie. 

“Lily, how could you keep quiet about something so big like this?” Edith had guessed that there were problems in Lily and Xavier’s marriage. Lily’s silence had meant she was steadfast about the divorce. 

Edith blamed Xavier instead, after running through her thoughts. “Lily is pregnant, and you didn’t know. What kind of husband are you?” 

“There’s no way she’s pregnant,” Xavier said with certainty. The birth control pills couldn’t have failed. 

But just as he said the words, he suddenly remembered the time when Lily was being distant yet obedient. She had been taking the pills incompliance every time. Something felt off

In an instant, Xavier’s expression shifted. His sharp gaze landed on Lily, who was standing behind Hazel with her head lowered. 

Although he couldn’t see her expression clearly, he thought she couldn’t hide the guilt on her face. 

Xavier clenched his jaw and stepped forward to grab Lily’s wrist. He dragged her toward the car. 

“Xavier, slow down!” Edith worried when she saw how rough Xavier was with Lily and chased a few steps after them.
