Lily was strangled to the point where she struggled to breathe, and the air felt thin. She grabbed Xavier’s wrist as her face slowly turned red. 

“Take me to the hospital for a check–up, if you don’t believe me,” she gasped. 

Xavier’s lips curled into a disdainful smirk. “What are you trying to prove? That you really want a divorce and aren’t just pretending to disrupt the divorce? 

He suddenly released her and turned around. Xavier pulled a cigarette from his pocket and placed it between his lips. Just as he was about to light it, something crossed his mind, and he tossed the lighter onto the bedside table. 

The unlit cigarette carried a light nicotine smell, but it did nothing to suppress his aggravated mood. 

Lily leaned against the wall, her gaze falling on the ovenumed bottle of pills in the drawer. The “VC” print on the pills was extremely small, so tiny that one wouldn’t notice without close inspection 

The last few times, she had taken the pills in anger without paying attention. After all, she would never have imagined that the pills could have been swapped.
