Lily walked very fast. When Xavier got out, he only managed to catch a glimpse of her disappearing around the corner. 

He pulled away from Sarah’s grip and said heavily, “Continue to take measurements with them. You don’t need to bother with my affairs.” He turned and walked off in a different direction. 

Sarah stood where she was and watched the two of them leave in opposite directions. There was an imperceptible smile playing about her lips. 

Nadia had gone to the second floor to take measurements. 

She had no idea about what had happened upstairs, but as soon as Lily returned, she realized that something was wrong. 

“Have you been crying? Did something happen at home?” 

“It’s alright. I’ll go and take care of it when we’re done with the measurements.” Lily didn’t try to make any excuses. 

She hadn’t looked in the mirror, but her eyes felt swollen. She didn’t need to see them to know that she couldn’t hide her current state. 

Nadia was a nice person, even if she’d been annoyed about Lily getting in through her connections. 

“If there’s something you need to do, you can go ahead. I can take the measurements on my own.” 

Lily shook her head and took the pen and paper from her. “Let’s do it together.” 

She didn’t want to neglect her work. She only wanted to do her best so that Nadia could see how earnest she was. That was the only way to make Nadia truly accept her and let her stay. They worked faster on taking the measurements and finished everything within an hour. 

“Ms. Lynde is in the garden.” They couldn’t find Sarah and Xavier, so Nadia had sent Sarah another message. “Let’s go and say goodbye before we leave.” 

Lily said to Nadia, “Ms. Cooper, you can say goodbye to them. I’ll wait for you at the entrance.” 

She didn’t want to see them again. 

“Alright.” Nadia waved at her, gesturing for her to leave. She headed off to the garden on her own. 

There was a fish pond in the back garden. Xavier was standing beside it, feeding the fish with his back facing Nadia. 

Nadia couldn’t see his expression, but she somehow sensed that he was in a bad mood. It was as thought there was a dark cloud hanging over him. 

Sarah stood in the distance. She only had eyes for Xavier. 

“Ms. Lynde, we’ve finished taking the measurements,” Nadia said to her in a low voice as she approached. 

Sarah turned back and saw that Nadia was alone. She asked, “Where’s Ms. Joyner?” 

Nadia looked at the entrance to the villa. “She has some urgent affairs to take care of at home. We’ll get going now.” 

Xavier overheard their conversation, and he looked over at Lily, who was waiting beside the car. 

She was standing under the streetlight at the entrance to the villa. 

She had her head bent over her phone, revealing the curve of her slender neck. 

Seeing how her brow had relaxed and her lips were curving up slightly, he assumed perhaps she was sending Terence a message. 

She didn’t have any urgent affairs at all! It was just that there was a man waiting for her at home. 

Her words echoed in Xavier’s mind. “I’ve always put you first in everything, and I’ve never said no to you. It’s because I love you.” 

Why was her love so shallow? How had she fallen in love with someone else in just the blink of an eye? 

However, when he thought about it, he realized that Lily had been treating him very differently from how she’d treated him two years ago.
