Lily was worried about Hayden. Every day he had to spend in prison was torture to her. 

She didn’t want to get too involved with the Clarks. If Benjamin really did end up in prison, the Clarks wouldn’t let her off the hook so easily. There would be an endless cycle of negotiations- she wasn’t sure how long that would drag on for. Therefore, she decided to strike a deal. 

However, the Clarks proved to be more difficult than she’d expected. 

“We’ve lost someone in our family… But you’re still alive–you’ve only got a small scar. We can’t just pretend nothing happened!” 

Instead of her usual pitiful act, Jasmine slammed her hand on the table forcefully, putting herself on the offensive. 

The loud thud drew the attention of those around them. 

Soon, a waiter approached them and reminded them gently, “Excuse me, please keep it down. Try not to disturb the other guests.” 

“Sorry.” Lily replied politely. As soon as the waiter left, she turned her attention back to Jasmine. 

She lowered her voice and tried to remain calm. “If I wasn’t alive today, the consequences your family would have to bear would be far worse than you think.” 

She continued, “Your daughter–in–law was very young–I truly feel sorry for her, but it wasn’t my brother’s fault, so I’m not going to pity you. I hope this ends here.” 

Lily’s stance was much firmer than what the Clarks had expected. The couple exchanged a quick glance. Then, Jasmine spoke up again. “If you want your brother out of prison, you’ll have to pay us two million dollars!” 

“I’m only willing to offer 100 thousand dollars at most,” Lily replied firmly. 

She’d already considered the amount beforehand. Despite the Clarks‘ behavior, she was still willing to offer some compensation for the sake of the young child involved. 

Besides, Hayden was a very kind–hearted person. Therefore, Lily knew that offering the Clarks some compensation would make him feel better. 

Jasmine’s eyes widened. 

“What do you mean by 100 thousand dollars at most? How can Bianca’s life be worth only that? If I had known earlier, I would’ve just told my son to just kill you then we’d be even!” “Watch your mouth!” Nathan interjected sternly. 

Jasmine immediately fell silent, but the fury in her eyes was still evident. 

Lily didn’t want to waste any more time arguing with someone so unreasonable. 

She turned to Nathan and asked, “Mr. Clark, what do you think?” 

“Fine, 100 thousand dollars it is! When can you pay us?” 

As soon as Nathan agreed, Jasmine started to hit him. Only when he shot her a cold glare did she finally settle down. Nevertheless, tears still streamed down her face. 

When Nathan finally agreed to the sum, Lily’s heart began to race. “I’ll pay you when Hayden is released.” 

With that, Nathan stood up and pulled Jasmine along with him. “We’ll go find our lawyers right away…” 

It was clear that the Clarks were trying to extort money by faking an accident. 

Legally, they would be held legally accountable for their actions, but Nathan and Jasmine were determined to protect Benjamin. 

Nevertheless, Lily wasn’t concerned about how the Clarks handled the situation. As long as Hayden was free, that’s all that mattered. 

Later that afternoon, the news broke out that the Clarks had confessed to their fraudulent scheme. 

They explained that Bianca had been terminally ill and couldn’t afford treatment. Therefore, Nathan had suggested the idea of faking an accident to extort money for the family.” 

They also disclosed that they’d bought personal accident insurance for Bianca just two months ago.
