Chapter 95 

Lily asked, “What did the doctor say?” She’d always be the one taking the blame if she was even remotely involved. She was used to it by now, and she didn’t waste time arguing. Hazel’s sobs grew louder. “The doctor said his condition is very serious. There’s a chance he could harm himself, and even with treatment… it’ll take at least six months before we might see any improvement.” 

“Is he the best doctor?” 

Lily knelt beside her and asked, “Are there any better doctors abroad?” 

Hazel wiped her tears and looked at her. They stared at each other, both with tear–streaked faces. Then, Hazel suddenly pulled her into a tight hug as her sobs grew louder. 

“This was your father’s only connection. He’s the best doctor we could afford in the country, and even then, it’s almost beyond what we can pay, not to mention those doctors overseas.” Hazel hugged Lily so tightly that she could barely breathe. She felt trapped but didn’t resist as she sank to her knees, silent tears tracing down her face. 

“If anything happens to Hayden, our family is finished, and your father will blame me.” 

Hazel released her but kept her hands firmly on her shoulders, staring intently at her. “Can’t you understand my struggles for once? Please, help Hayden for my sake, okay?” 

Lily’s hand, which had been lightly resting on Hazel’s arm, fell weakly to her side. Through her tears, her vision cleared, and for the first time, the woman who had given birth to her and took care of her for over 20 years seemed like a stranger. 

A stranger she barely recognized. 

“Answer me! Will you help Hayden or not?” Hazel shook Lily’s shoulders forcefully after seeing that she remained silent. 

Feeling dizzy, Lily finally relented. “I’ll help!” 

Hearing this, Hazel froze for a moment, then quickly forced a smile. “You…” 

“But I’m not doing it for you. I’m doing it for myself. He’s my brother.” She steadied herself against a bench and turned to look at Hayden, who lay asleep on the hospital bed. “When will he wake up? I want to speak with his doctor.” 

Hazel stumbled to her feet. “Of course, I’ll take you to see him. I knew you wouldn’t abandon him. Talk to the doctor, okay? We’re both counting on you…” 

Sensing how distant Lily’s tone was, Hazel kept trying to tie herself to Hayden, reminding Lily that as long as she considered Hayden her brother, she was still her mother. But Lily had no energy for word games now. 

She met with Hayden’s primary doctor, Xander Dawson, one of the top psychiatrists in Jadefort. “Dr. Dawson, how confident are you that Hayden can fully recover?” 

She didn’t hesitate, wanting to know if they should consider seeking help overseas. 

Xander hesitated briefly before answering, “Fifty percent. In cases like his, no doctor–here or abroad–can give any guarantees. His recovery depends largely on his own will to get better.” Mental health issues were different from physical illnesses; medication helped, but ultimately, the patient’s resilience was what mattered most.
