“Sir, we've found something.”
Adan’s heart jumped to his throat at those words. He turned sharply to face one of the IT men, asking, “What did you find?”
“Although we can’t see the kidnapper, we can see Miss Jones being forced into a second car on a camera near the blind spot. The license plate was fake, but we are working on tracking the make and the model to know who owns the car,” the IT man reported.
“What about the thing I asked you to look into?” Adan inquired.
He was referring to the background check he had ordered on Cheryl.
“Yes, we did find something,” the IT man replied. “She had withdrawn about a hundred thousand dollars from her savings account two days ago. However, since she didn’t use digital transfer, we can’t trace where the money went. We just have to wait until we find the owner of the second vehicle.”
Adan’s jaw clenched and Ryan placed a hand on his shoulder before squeezing it. He said, “We are going to find her, bro.”
“I swear, if Cheryl has anything to do with this, I’ll make her pay,” Adan hissed.
Adan clenched his hands into fists, his jaw clenching as he thought of the possibility of Cheryl being responsible for the kidnapping. He wanted so much to confront her and question her if she had anything to do with Bianca’s disappearance.
However, he had to hold himself back until he had proof.
It didn’t take long for the IT technician to interrupt Adan’s thoughts. He approached him, saying, “Sir, we have a lead.”
Adan froze, looking at the man with a worried look on his face. He asked, “What have you found?”
“We traced the second car to a rental company outside the city. It was rented under a fake name but we can check the footage to see who got the car,” the man reported. “I’m sure the kidnapper’s identity will be known once we watch the footage.”
“We should go there now,” Ryan suggested after being silent for some time.
Adan quickly nodded and said, “Let’s go.”
They were about to leave the building when Cheryl stopped them.
“Sir! Where are you going? Has there been progress?” Cheryl asked.
Adan glanced at Cheryl, his face devoid of any emotions. He could see how eager she was to know if he had found Bianca or not and it irked him.
Why would his assistant want Bianca gone?
It didn’t make any sense.
However, he could guess from the way the woman was giving him gooey eyes. Ryan was right. She had a crush on him and thought Bianca was a threat.
Irritation flared through Adan. He forced himself to reply, “Yes. Someone just called and said they saw someone like Bianca in the east of the city.”
Adan squinted his eyes when Cheryl looked relieved. She smiled and said, “That’s good, boss. Can’t wait to have Miss Jones back.”
When Adan and Ryan left the building, Adan’s face became frosty.
“I can almost confirm she had something to do with this. She looks so happy that Bianca is missing,” he remarked through gritted teeth. “I lied about where Bianca had been seen and then she looked like she had hit the jackpot.”
“I’ll have the police on standby as we check the footage. They will arrest her as soon as we confirm that she was the one who rented the car,” Ryan replied.
…
“How dare she?” Adan seethed, banging his hand on the table in the security room at the car rental company. “I’m going to destroy her!”
They had arrived at the car rental company and requested to see their footage. The owner of the company wanted to be difficult but Adan threatened to sue them for protecting a criminal and they allowed them to view the footage.
It was then that Adan was able to see his assistant, Cheryl, rent the second car that was used in the kidnapping. She wore a cap but her facial features were recognisable.
