"Artemis are you okay?' His voice was quiet, no doubt from the distance but I managed to pick it up.

"I'm fine. What about you guys, where are you?' I asked. Instead of answering, Conan showed me what he was seeing. They were still running in their wolf forms, but at a much more leisurely pace.

"You're near the Rocky Mountains now. You'll get there in about three days,' I spoke. "There's only two smaller packs near you right now but they are pretty friendly. You can take your time,"

"Okay. I wish you were with us, we can't thank you enough,' he replied. I felt a small smile tug on my lips.

"I will be with you guys soon, I just have things I need to sort out over here,' I paused my mindlink to catch my surroundings and realised we had arrived at the pack house.

People were whispering and staring at us, at me specifically as we passed and only when Aurelius growled did they scurry away. He led me down the familiar steps and the smell of death and decay greeted me once again like an old friend.

I was shoved into the cell in the farthest corner, the space darker and smaller than the others. Aurelius stood over me, two guards now flanking him as he stared me down.

I stared back at him, letting him see my defiance and refusal to submit in my eyes. I didn't wince as the guards pulled me up to stand and forced my hands into tight silver cuffs. The inner side of them had spikes which I realised was covered in wolfsbane.

They dug into my flesh, piercing them deep enough to be painful but not enough to be life threatening. I already felt some of my blood trickle from my wrist and down my arms.

They stood back and locked the door while I had a stare down with their alpha through the bars.

His face was blank and his jaw was clenched. He assessed me for a minute before turning and stomping away.

"Don't let her out until I say so," he barked to the guards.

"Yes Alpha," they responded. I heard the door slam shut and I closed my eyes, returning to my conversation with Conan.

"Artemis, are you there?"

"Yes I'm here, it's going to rain and it might be difficult for some to travel. Find some shelter for the night and eat,' I ordered.

"Yes Artemis,' he responded. I fought a smile.

"Tell me when you're settled. I'll speak to the rest then,"

"Yes Artemis,' I smiled fully this time at his tone as I waited. I watched the world from his eyes, seeing as he sniffed at the ground and looked for a place with a good vantage point.

Thankfully, I was used to silence and solitude so it didn't bother me.

It was the tiny cramped space and the limited mobility that was getting to me.

All my life, I didn't have much. I wasn't surrounded by pack members and I didn't have a home. But I did have freedom. I could roam as far as I wanted, whenever I wanted. I lived in the forest and Mother Nature raised me.

So being imprisoned in a tiny cage was making me feel restless. I was fighting the urge to shift on the spot and destroy anything in my way.

The only thing keeping me sane were my dreams. Or hallucinations. It was hard to tell what exactly they were with how realistic they seemed.

Sometimes I'd see my friends and I all running through the forest, exploring my caves as we settled and claimed it as our territory. We were a pack. A small, mismatched pack, but a pack nonetheless. I'd even approach other rogues and convince them to join us and they would accept.

But most of my dreams would revolve around a couple, both of them golden skinned with dark featured. They were mostly alone in my dreams, sometimes just holding each other lovingly.

They were mates, that was obvious and it hurt that I couldn't have something like that with my mate.

In today's dream, the woman had a swollen belly. She was sitting by a creek, her feet dipped in the cool water. As always, the sun was shining down on her, making the blonde strands in her brown hair stand out.
