The next second, though, Benjamin looked over at Curtis with an indifferent expression. His eyes held a cold look, and his voice was low. "Aren't we leaving?"

"Yes, Mr. Martin."

Curtis hurriedly lowered his head and opened the car door to follow Benjamin to the dinner party.

However, after hanging up the phone, Harper didn't dare to look at her cell phone for a long time. She didn't know what she was struggling with.

She mentally repeated what she'd said to Benjamin a few times and didn't think there was anything too wrong with it.

Probably because of the call, Harper didn't think about anything else and fell asleep quickly.

She had expected the night to be different, but she ended up waking up with a nightmare. She woke up in the latter part of the night.

Harper had no way to calm down and control her emotions. She dialed Benjamin's number directly.

"Hello?"

Benjamin's low voice was husky.

It was only after hearing his voice that Harper realized what she had done.

Not hearing her, Benjamin sounded a little worried. "Harper? Are you there, Harper?"

"I am."

She responded in a low voice, her voice sounding a little muffled and hushed.

Benjamin immediately asked, "What happened?"

Benjamin just hesitated for two or three seconds before whispering, "Don't be afraid. I'll go back now. Turn on the TV or go over to Eleanor. If you don't want to bother Eleanor, I'll have my mom come over and stay with you now. Okay?"

"No, it's so late now. You don't have to call Lily, nor do you have to rush back right now. I just... I just couldn't sleep and wanted to talk to you. I'll be fine soon."

"Harper, we're married. You don't need to be so polite to me. You do not want to bother my mom and Eleanor. But I am your husband and the father of the baby in your belly. So don't say things like that to me, okay?"

His words wholly warmed Harper's heart.

Harper fell silent at once. The call continued until Benjamin arrived at the airport. During the whole process, she heard him ask Curtis to book him on the earliest flight back to Mayby immediately. Since there were no direct flights at this hour, he would need to make a connecting flight to arrive after dawn.

How could she not be moved by this?

The call ended just before Benjamin got on the plane. Before he hung up, his voice was low and husky, and he said, "Harper, don't be afraid. Wait for me to get back, okay?"
