“No. When you sent me to university a few days ago, she saw you. I’m afraid she’d think I’m a playboy, Casey said sincerely.

Ellis pursed her lips. “I didn’t send you alone, the driver was there too.”

Maya stood at the arrival terminal as she looked around, finding Ellis.

“Chill out!” Maya helped her take her luggage and said, “We’ve not seen each other for a month: before we head back, let’s go

at something good!”

Maya perked up when she heard about good food.

Just last year, she wouldn’t have imagined how drastically her life would change within a year.

“How can you just go with the flow on New Year’s?”

Ellis let out a sigh. To her, the new year held no special meaning. She had long lost any blood relatives, had no one she loved, and was entirely on her own. Every day felt more or less the same.

Thinking back, last year she had still been looking forward to having an adorable child the year after, imagining a happy little family of three with Easton. But now, all of that had turned to dust. She had escaped from that marriage.
