Chapter 59 Digging Too Deep.
Finished
Work left unfinished always called for an apology. As soon as Ellis got home, the first thing she did was call Casey. She felt a little guilty. “Sorry, I had a run–in with my soon–to–be ex–husband. I didn’t think things would turn out like that.”
You’ve got terrible taste in men, idiot.”
She cleared her throat. “I have a name. Use it
“I checked the security footage. You were the one who let your husband in. You two aren’t turning my house into your personal lovers quarrel zone, are you?”
Casey was used to living alone and wasn’t fond of uninvited guests. He was already struggling to adjust to the new housekeeper his mother had arranged for him, and now Ellis and her husband had caused in his home. He wasn’t
a scene happy
“Lovers‘ quarrel with that scumbag? Are you blind? I was trying
Before she could finish, the call cut off.
Ellis blinked. Then she realized–Casey had hung up on her.
He wouldn’t snitch to Lois, would he?
Rubbing her temples in frustration, she muttered a string of curses aimed at Easton’s ancestors.
The next day, Ellis went to work as usual.
The moment she stepped in, Lois called her into her office.
Seeing the slight seriousness in Lois’s expression, the first thing that came to mind was that Casey had ratted her out.
Bracing herself, Ellis hurried inside and spoke before Lois could. “Madam Lois, about last night-
Lois raised a hand, signaling her to stop, then handed her a file.
For a split second, Ellis thought it was a termination letter.
A million–dollar salary, gone just like that.
She mentally chalked up the loss to that damn scumbag. Keeping her face neutral, she took the file.
Lois asked. “Did you know Mr. Easton has been looking into you? His search led him straight to me.”
Ellis blinked in confusion. “You mean Easton?”
“Yes, hum.”
“He didn’t dig too deep. As soon as he found out you were working as my secretary, he stopped. Lois had received word of it last night. She’d initially thought Easton was coming after her for poaching his employee, but it turned out to be something else entirely.
That scumbag was probably trying to see if she had actually cheated on him.
And who the hell had taken those photos of her and Casey?
If she ever found out, she’d make sure to beat them to a pulp.
Lois asked. “Is your divorce finalized?”
Ellis shook her head. “No.”
Ellis couldn’t give a definite answer.
She had initiated the divorce, but Easton refused to sign. On top of that, the prenup put her at a disadvantage–since she was the one asking for the divorce, Easton could easily throw obstacles in her way. She had no idea how long it would take to get it
done.
“Divorce isn’t a simple process, especially when assets are involved. Splitting them takes time. Lois warned her. “Be prepared for Easton to find out you’re working for me.”
Now understanding why Lois had called her in, Ellis exhaled in relief and nodded. “Understood, Madam Lois.
So what if Easton found out she was working for Lois?
People change jobs all the time.
Was she supposed to be tied to his damn company forever?
“Get back to work. Lois gestured toward the file. “Get the documents stamped and distributed before noon
Ellis hesitated, debating whether to mention last night’s events. In the end, she remained standing.
“You have something to say?” Lois glanced at her, then smirked. “Wondering if Casey rated you out?”
Uh Ellis lowered her head slightly, embarrassed.
