Chapter 84 Final Words
Easton felt as if his blood was flowing sluggishly through his veins, the air around him too thin to breathe.
Finished
He stared at her intently for a moment, then asked in a slower tone than usual, Tll ask you one more time, are you sure you don’t want to be my wife, even if it means leaving with nothing?”
Ellis nodded firmly and replied with emphasis, “I am absolutely certain!”
Before she could finish speaking, the deadbeat released her hand and turned his back on her.
His behavior was inexplicable, leaving her puzzled.
Just as Ellis was considering whether to say something more to affirm her decision to divorce, the deadbeat spoke coldly, “Don’t come to regret your decision and end up crying and begging to remarry me! And handle Carly!”
Twon’t regret it!” Ellis assured him.
But managing Carly? That was something she couldn’t do. Every time she mentioned divorcing the deadbeat, Carly would try to interfere. It was rare for Ellis to change Carly’s mind, yet Carly was fixated on her getting a share of the deadbeat’s wealth.
She didn’t even want to think about what Carly would do once she found out Ellis was leaving without a penny.
“Carly. I can’t handle her; you can, right?” she pondered. “Carly’s also your aunt, and you have control over her finances; she should be easy for you to manage
“You want a divorce, and I should handle everything? Easton turned back around, his cold eyes fixed on her. “My mother and Carly, you haven’t dealt with them, and you’re leaving all the trouble for me.
“How was I supposed to know they’d be this difficult? Ellis felt oddly like divorcing the deadbeat was just as hard as when she had wanted to marry him. Time is a good healer; they’ll come around eventually”
She didn’t want to come up with a clever solution for handling Carly and Sophia; time would have to do
“You never learn, always acting on your whims and preferences without considering the consequences! What great things can you achieve? Don’t get fired by Lois in a few months, ending up unable to find even a decent job!”
“Stop judging me so harshly!” Ellis turned away. “Whether I’m sensible or not is none of your business.”
Everyone has their own definition of being sensible. To the deadbeat, she was definitely not. Well, thinking back on many things I did with him. I did act on my feelings and preferences without much thought for the consequences,
Like the time he didn’t want her working at his company, and she insisted on not only working there but also being his assistant. He didn’t want her accompanying him to meetings or business trips, but she went anyway.
“With your shameless persistence, if you run out of money and come asking me for help, you could starve right in front of me, and I wouldn’t give you a dime.”
Ellis had said she was willing to give up the glamor of being Mrs. Easton and was content with living an ordinary life for now. Well, she and her Carly can live in poverty together. I see how long she regrets her big words today.
“Being rich is so great, huh?” Ellis snapped back, feeling it was too childish, but then she changed her tune. “Right, being rich is great! But I can support myself, don’t expect me to ask you for money!”
Suddenly faced with the deadbeat’s accusations of shamelessness and persistence, Ellis wished she could go back in time and slap her past self for chasing after him. Wake up, he’s not worth it!
Easton forced a laugh, shaking off the darkness in his heart. “Being my wife put you so high up, you couldn’t see how hard the fall would be. When you finally crash, you’ll realize just how bitter it is to know you can’t turn things around.”
