Chapter 65
Liam is a mees.
He’s my boss but he’s been avoiding me like a plague ever since we met in the hallway earlier. Everyone is starting to notice it and I absolutely refuse to be a laughingstock in the workplace I worked so hard to get into.
“Where were you?” Zoe peeks from her cubicle, pushing back her office chair to take a look at me. I type harder on the keys. grinding on my teeth I think they’d break any seconds now. “Geez, what is up in your ass? Not getting laid lately?” Zoe mutters, snickering and trying to lighten the mood.
I honestly appreciate that about her. But right now, the last thing I want is for anyone reminding me of anything remotely related about sex.
“Please don’t talk.” I mutter, pressing on ‘Enter‘ to a response to client’s email asking if we have any juicy news lately about their glorious Alpha King.
Here’s a news, he’s a stupid asshole. That’s what he is. Not everyone knows that, would probably blow up the internet too.
“Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed.” Zoe shakes her head and does the wise thing by going back to her cubicle and leaving me alone. I blow out an exasperated sigh.
I still can’t believe all the fuck–ups I’ve done last night. I’m not that kind of girl. I refuse to believe I am. But I just proved how much I don’t know myself from being stuck in the Riverstone Pack my entire life.
I don’t know me. And Goddess, I’m absolutely scared of what I’m capable of.
Sighing, I finally push myself off my chair. “Where are you going?” Zoe asks, taking a sip of her cold mocha. “To settle some things out.” I reply, walking past her and to his office. Liam’s office.
‘Editor in Chief lies in gold plated, bold letters on his mahogany door. Yet he can’t even look me in the eye earlier as he offered to drive us both to work. I take a huge amount of breathe before finally knocking. Once, twice, until I banged on it.
W
What the hell is he doing in there?
The other guys on their own cubicle begin to turn to me, whispering to themselves. Oh fuck off, puny humans who doesn’t know a thing.
“Come in.”
Finally,
I push the door open and Liam is reading a document. “What is it?” He mutters, not even looking up. “It’s me.” I call and that got his attention as he drops the document and finally looks up, eyes wide. There it is again. That stupid, flustered gaze.
Is he for real?
“Look,” I start off, walking over to his desk. Fuck, this is going to be tough. “I know what I did last night was wrong.” I sigh, pushing my hair back and licking my lips.
“I would accept repercussions for it-”
“For what?” He interrupts.
My brows furrow, “For doing that with my boss.” I state the obvious in a ‘duh‘ tone. Goddess, he’s testing my patience. Is he actually going to play the forget–anything–happened game?

“What exactly did you do with me, Sinclair?” He leans over. Gone was the shy Liam and here, a bastard is smirking at me. I grit my teeth, glaring at him eye–to–eye. “For—I don’t know! Almost fucking with the Editor in Chief?!” I exclaim, throwing my hands up in the air.
Ugh, I hate that I had to say that.
“You know, my office isn’t actually sound–proof, right?” He mutters and I quickly whip my head at him. “What did you just say?” I mutter in disbelief.
“I said my office isn’t-”
“I know what you said!” I run my hand down my face in exasperation, looking out as another wave of heads turn to the office as if overhearing what I just said. It really is not soundproof.
Goddamnit.
“Listen, I’m sorry, okay?” I sigh, feeling defeated all of a sudden, I sit back down on the chair in front of his desk. “I really didn’t mean to. I was drunk and I was thinking of-” I cut myself off, nt wanting ot be rude any further.
The last thing I want right now is for my boss to know I was pathetic enough to imagine someone else kissing me. That it’s the man I’ve been longing for so much. The man they won’t believe I once had something with.
That’s beyond desperate.
“Don’t worry, Taryn,” Liam smiles. “Your boyfriend made sure the line was drawn.”
My head raised at him in confusion. My boyfriend?
My eyes widen. Right. The man. The hot black guy who pulled me off of him. I scrunch my brows trying to remember his face.
Goosebumps rose in my body when I finally do.
“S–shit…” I murmur. I knew he was familiar. “What?” Liam asks, suddenly thrown off my by sudden excitement. “I’ll be out. Sorry. Alright? Bye!” I rush out of the doorway, slamming it behind me.
That’s it. That’s fucking it.
Running towards our cubicles, I immediately catch Zoe’s reclining chair, pulling and turning it towards me with haste. My breath is ragged while she looks up at me, caught off guard.
“What? What? What the fuck is it?” She swings her head side–to–side at the entire place, looking out for danger. I shake my head, smiling stupidly. “Nothing-“I inhale, trying to fill my lungs back up first. “—Nothing, no one is in danger. But I have something very crucial to ask you.” I mutter.
“Okay, now you’re scaring me.” Zoe murmurs as she leans back, cringing at the excitement basically fuming out of me right
now.
I knew it now. I just fucking pieced the puzzle out.
I remember that man’s words last night, just before the elevator door opened as we headed to my apartment. “Don’t think about it. It’s orders from up there.” I repeat his words mindlessly.
“Huh?” Zoe tilts her head.
“Show me Enoch Blackwell’s Beta.” I smile. Goosebumps rise in my skin.
Zoe’s brows popped up as she nods willingly without saying anything, turning back to her computer and looking up exactly who I told her to.

He still care about me. I don’t give a fuck if it’s about jealousy, Or that he couldn’t swallow the fact i was almost in bed with Liam without his Beta’s interruption. I don’t care about it all.
The electricity coursing through me, finally confirming all of my thoughts. Everything everyone snickered at me about–it’s all giving me cocaine–level of happiness.
Zoe types in some more. After all, like their Alpha, the other Imperial officers are also hard to find, but not as hard as Enoch, so we’ve already mastered the more lower ones. That’s the beauty of fucking journalism.
“Here,” Zoe turns the screen to me and my heart does a somersault. I was right. I was freaking right. It’s Enpch’s Beta. He really have ordered him to stop me from further going at it with Liam because he wad jealous.
“That grin on your face is scaring the living shit out of me.” Zoe remarks and a chuckle filled with absolute happiness slips out of me as I pull her face with both hands, landing kisses on each cheeks. “Thank you so so much!” I giggle.
I rush out of the door, pulling my jacket and stuff from the counter. “Where are you going?” Zoe calls from our cubicles. I smile at her, pocketing my keys. “To him.” I smile, flipping with excitement. Goddess, I could strangle someone with how much adrenaline is running in my body right now.
