I file into my penthouse, and everyone follows suit. “There are empty rooms downstairs, food and beer in the refrigerator and hard liquor in the cellar; make yourselves at home, but just don’t break my shit,” I tell the Rogues and Zephyr while walking towards the kitchen.

Fucking starved, I headed home and invited them all over to stay here before we leave for Brooklyn tomorrow. I haven’t been able to eat much the past few weeks, but now that I know we have a chance to get Lily back tomorrow, I am ravenous.

“Where’s Dimitri?” Cain asks and gestures for a beer from the fridge when he sits down at the kitchen island.

“He went with Kai to the estate; the witches want to put a 48-hour binding spell on his beast until they can figure out why he can’t control it yet,” I say, taking a seat opposite him after ordering takeout. “Hope you guys like pizza.”

Cain scoffs. “We’re literal strays; we’ll eat anything.”

I shake my head at this and take a swig of the beer in my hand. Dimitri and Zephyr will be staying here to keep an eye on Cat and the witches at the estate, along with Nova. Kai didn’t want to leave her alone here since Cat, and she got along after she verified Nova’s stories. We don’t usually invite Rogues into the estate, so Cat must feel strongly about the little librarian.

“Why did Stefan take your mate if she’s pregnant with your pup?” Cain suddenly asks, snapping me out of my thoughts.

I sigh and lean forward on my forearms. “Lily was scentless before, so both of us never felt the full effect of the Bond Sighting. There was an attraction, but neither of us acted on it, and when we eventually did, she turned tail and ran.”

“Pussy,” Cain says with a smirk, and I bark out a laugh.

“Yeah, I was, but before I claimed her with a bite, she had told me she met her mate and was going to leave the pack, so me fucking her at the time was considered taboo,” I say. The guilt I felt back then was eclipsed by the pain in my chest when she rejected the pack.

“Oh, heavy; claiming another wolf’s mate would have started a pack war and made her infertile.” He says.

I nod. “On point. She rejected the pack the same night, went to Russo’s place, and has been held there ever since. I only saw her when he called us for help with his pack warriors, but looking at it now, I think he wanted me to walk in on him fucking her and seeing her pregnant.”

“Fuck,” Cain says, his mouth hanging open in shock at my words.

“You can say that again. I would have left it at that and moved on if she didn’t whisper for me to help her. That’s when I knew something was wrong and that the child in her womb was mine. I also remembered that I claimed her on the night of a full moon; Volkov wolves have to claim their mates under a full moon, or the Anchor won’t take.”

Cain shakes his head and scoffs. “I doubt you would have moved on since you can’t reject an anchored bond, asshole. I think Russo wanted to get off on you seeing her being fucked by another man; why else would he have invited you? Help with his warriors? Please, the fucker is a demon.”

“Looking at it now, I think so as well. In any case, I’ll be the one to kill the fucker tomorrow for everything he did to her.” And I am prepared for anything that comes after killing him, even if my so-called soul will be tainted.

Lily will be free; that is all that matters.

“Food’s here!” Zephyr calls and heads towards the elevator to collect the six large pizzas. Food for beasts, what can I say?

I couldn’t sleep that night at all, even after the fuckers calmed down with their shit and passed out. Sleep wouldn’t come, but I slept like the dead and had a dreamless sleep when it eventually did.
