Lily
“Let’s get them inside,” Konstantin says when he leans down next to me and picks up Kaia. I blink at this, then scoop Luca up in my arms and follow him in.
I haven’t seen or heard from him all day, so this is a bit of a surprise for me. Wasn’t he still angry at me for what I did?
We lay the twins down in their separate cribs and stood there just staring at them for a few minutes. The fact that they won’t be plagued with their demonic side lifted a massive weight from my shoulders, especially for Kaia and her future. At least they’ll live normal lives, well as normal as it can be for a werewolf.
But not only that, I feel… lighter? My mind seems clearer than it has before, and as I peek inside my subconscious, I can see Gypsy lounging happily. Taking a deep breath, I decide to take advantage of my state of mind - it’s now or never.
“I spent the entire afternoon rehearsing my apology in my head, and now that I’m face to face with you, I don’t know where to start,” I say, turning my head towards my mate.
He’s got his jaw clenched so tight that I can see a thick vein bulging in his neck… but he doesn’t look my way and continues to stare at the twins. My heart pounds at his cold reaction, and I can already feel the confidence dissipate.
I sigh, take a step back from him, and turn to the door. “I’ll go-”
He grabs me by the wrist before I can walk away, and when I look up at him, his beautiful brown eyes have shimmered to their Beta silver. Not just that…they were brimming with unshed tears.
“Konstantin-”
“I am so angry, Lily, and so fucking hurt, but that doesn’t give you the right to walk away.” He says, and when he blinks, the tears fall down his cheeks, and he scoffs. “I fucking hate showing weakness like this, but you’re my mate, so I can’t exactly hide this side of me from you.”
I draw my hands up to his face, wiping his tears away, and my heart shatters at how he stiffens at my touch. “This isn't weakness. I turned to another man because of my fear and self-doubt; that is weakness.” I say and shake my head.
“I know now that what I did is wrong, and I might never get your forgiveness after this, but please know that I will do whatever it takes to show you how sorry I am for hurting you, Konstantin. You’re the last person I should be hurting and the first one I should put my trust in, but I fucked up and did it the wrong way around.”
“Yeah, you fucked up,” he says, calling me out on my bullshit as usual, but then he takes my hands from his face and kisses my fingers. “But owning up to that fuck up is the first step.”
I scoff and roll my eyes. “Can you not be so honest for once?”
“But my cocky self is what made you fall for me in the first place,” he says and grins, causing my heart to skip a beat. “We have a long way to go to fix what’s messed up between us, Lily, but I would rather have you here with me, sorting our shit out than us living past one another because of what you did in a moment of weakness.”
He holds me close to him when I start to sob and strokes my hair. I know I shouldn’t be the one crying right now because I was in the wrong, but his words broke through my entire brave facade.
Breaking off the embrace, he takes my face in his hands and looks me dead in the eyes. “I love you, I always have, and I always will. You’re my mate, my wife, the mother of my children and my entire fucking life. Nothing will take that away, not even a shitty Alpha who can’t keep to one fucking wife.”
I let out a laugh when he says this, and he gives me the smile I love so much. “Thank you for giving me another chance, Konstantin; I promise not to screw it up-”
“You’re gonna say you love me too or do I have to kiss it out of you?” He asks with a raised eyebrow, and I blink at this.
“Well-”
Of course, he doesn’t allow me to finish my sentence before he crashes his mouth on mine. I melt into the softness of his kiss, recognising the familiar taste of bourbon, and I feel a pull at my core. He runs his fingers through the hair at the back of my head, and I stiffen when he grabs the back of my neck….
