It was late at night when Willow finally drove home.
She was about to undo her seatbelt after getting home when she suddenly caught sight of something.
Julian had parked his car under the sycamore tree opposite her. He was dressed in all black as he puffed clouds of smoke into the air. His Adam’s apple kept bobbing lightly, drawing her attention to it.
As the smoke rose into the air, it framed his face for a slight moment before being blown away by the gentle night breeze.
The night was dark and black, and his clothes blended right in. It was as if he was part of the darkness himself.
When Julian caught sight of Willow, he frowned deeply at first. Then, he extinguished the cigarette and threw it to the ground, stomping out the embers before heading over toward her.
Willow didn’t want to talk to him, so she hurried into her apartment building toward the elevators while Julian’s hurried footsteps could be heard following her.
In the end, he managed to corner her against her own unit door. “Willow, we need to talk.”
“Talk?”
Willow took out the keys from her pocket and responded coldly. “What do we have to talk about?”
Those wet, steamy nights and Julian’s fake promises felt just like a feverish dream to her. Luckily, she’d never taken any of them
to heart.
She opened the door, and Julian immediately shot his hand forward to stop the door from opening.
After wrestling for a bit, Willow was pushed back against the wall next to the door, with Julian’s arms caging her from both sides.
His eyes stared deeply into hers. He was looking at her with a solemn expression on his face.
A while later, he suddenly dipped forward, wanting to kiss her, just like he always did last time. But this time, Willow turned her head away, not letting him come close.
Julian stared at her, his voice low and scratchy. “What’s the matter?”
Willow’s face looked soft and fragile. Now that she was no longer the vice CEO of Nebula Group, she looked a lot softer than usual,
naturally making men want to be more protective of her.
Julian swallowed again, his Adam’s apple bobbing slightly, as he spoke in an even lower voice. “Willow, things aren’t like how
you saw it.”
Willow retorted, “Then what is it actually like?”
Even she was starting to look down on herself. Her own husband obviously had eyes for another woman and didn’t care about
gossip or rumors spreading about them, but yet, here he was, still clinging to her and pretending to still be in love with her.
