Julian was taken aback. He turned around to see Melanie.
She looked like a mess. Her hair was all over the place, and her makeup was smeared from her tears. She was nothing like the high–society lady she prided herself on being.
Julian thought she was there to bid him goodbye, so he waved at her before walking past the security checkpoint.
Melanie panicked and ran toward him, shouting, “You can’t go, julian! Willow is pregnant! Pregnant! You’re going to be a father; I’m not lying! You’re going to be a dad!”
Meanwhile, Julian stood on a step at the security checkpoint with his arms raised as a staff member checked him. He vaguely heard Melanie shouting something about a pregnancy and being a father.
He frowned. Beside him, Alicia smiled and said, “Let’s go to the boarding lounge, Julian.”
Just then, Melanie charged over, looking disheveled. She held a medical record, and tears streamed down her face as she shouted across the crowd, “This is the record of Willow’s prenatal checkup, Julian! I took it from the hospital!”
Julian paled beneath the harsh lights. Willow was pregnant?
After a long moment, he strode toward Melanie, picking up the pace until he reached her. Then, he took the medical record from her, his hands trembling as he read it.
“Name: Willow Harper, 27 years old.
“Diagnosis: Seven weeks pregnant.
“Patitis advised to take folic acid.”
The report only contained a few simple sentences, yet Julian read them repeatedly.
Melanie said shakily, “This is a child of the Ziegler family, Julian. Whether it’s a boy or a girl, they’re your flesh and blood. You
can’t act rashly.”
Julian’s hands fell to his sides as tears filled his eyes. He’d seen Willow yesterday–she’d just vomited her guts out, yet he’d told her he was leaving and that there were many good men in the world.
He’d told her she didn’t need to revolve around him and that he would even prepare wedding gifts for her when she met the
right guy.
At that moment, she’d already been carrying his child in her womb
What could she have been thinking at the time? She had to have hated him for being cruel and heartless!
Julian stopped hesitating. He said to Melanie, “You take Alicia back to Heartwell Hospital. I’m going to see Willow.”
Melanie was relieved to hear that. She nodded vigorously. “Go on!‘ll make sure Alicia is back safe and sound.”
He turned to look at Alicia. She stood there in a white dress and said tearfully, “You promised you would make this final trip with me, Julian.”
His Adam’s apple bobbed. “I’m going to have to break my promise Alicia.”
He turned to leave. She grabbed his arm, tears streaming down her face as she pleaded, “Don’t be so cruel to me, Julian! You can still be a good husband and father when you come back–all I ask is for you to give me two months! Can’t you do that?”
He pried her hands away, his voice hoarse as he said, “I’m sorry, Alicia.”
He strode off. Behind him, Alicia screamed, “Don’t go! Can’t I compare to her in your heart? Don’t you even have the slightest bit of pity for me anymore?”
