Chapter 499 So Stubborn
*Selena*
After getting dressed, I was wheeled into the hospital. I couldn't help but feel a sense of familiarity wash over me. It had been years since I had stepped foot on this place, yet everything looked exactly the same.
The sterile white walls, the smell of disinfectant, and the sound of heart monitors beeping in the background.
When I arrived at the treatment room, I was greeted by a young nurse with bright green eyes and a friendly smile.
"Hi there, I'm Jane," the nurse said. "I heard you had a little accident in the kitchen?"
I nodded, feeling a little self-conscious. "Yeah, I was making breakfast, and my dress accidentally caught fire."
Jane nodded sympathetically. "Okay, let's take a look at it."
I held out my hand, wincing as Jane gently prodded at the burn. My upper arm had a slight burn. It wasn't a severe injury, but it was painful as hell. However, the nurse was touching it gently.
As Jane cleaned and applied disinfectant, the pack doctor, Dr. Oliver, arrived and was shocked at first, but then he greeted me with a warm smile. "Selena, it's good to see you again. What brings you here today?" He asked, eyeing my wound.
I winced as the nurse began to clean the slight burn on my hand.
"Just a little accident in the kitchen," I replied, trying to downplay the situation.
Dr. Oliver raised an eyebrow. "It looks like it could be a bit more than a little accident. Let's get you checked properly."
I nodded as I waited for the doctor to finish examining me.
Dr. Oliver motioned Jane to step aside and began doing dressing himself after examining my burn wound.
However, I noticed the curious glances of the other werewolves in the hospital. They all knew me as the former Luna, the one who had been rejected by their Alpha.
The memories of that painful time flooded back into me, and I couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness in my heart. But I quickly pushed those thoughts aside. I was here for a reason, and dwelling on the past wouldn't help me in the present.
After a thorough examination, Dr. Oliver determined that the burn wasn't serious and prescribed some ointment to help it heal. "You'll be fine, Selena. Just make sure to keep that hand clean and dry," he said with a smile.
I thanked him and made my way out of the hospital. Then I spotted Dr. Anderson's cabin.
I turned around promptly and found Dr. Oliver exiting the examination room.
"Ah! Excuse me, Doctor!" Rushing toward him, I called out.
Dr. Oliver looked at me, stopping at his steps.
"Yes, Selena! Is everything alright? Is the wound still hurting?" He asked with concern.
"No! Thank you for the treatment. But I wanted to ask what happened to Dr. Anderson. Who can do this to her? She was a very nice lady, and I knew her personally," I asked, hoping to get some information.
Doctor Oliver was the most senior doctor in the pack's hospital, and he must know about it.
"I don't know how it happened. But it was the saddest day of our lives. We lost Dr. Anderson the day you left the pack," he said in a very gloomy voice.
"Oh!" I bit my lips as I felt sad for Dr. Anderson.
She was a kind doctor and a very humble lady. Who would want to kill her?
"Dr. Oliver, can I check her room?" I asked, and he looked at me suspiciously.
All of a sudden, the main door swung open, causing me to jump as the imposing figure of the Alpha King strode in. At first, I was stunned, and then I quickly averted my gaze. His magnificent physique was fully on display as he was only wearing shorts.
Oh, he was out all night. Perhaps he was on patrol or having a casual one-night stand. To be honest, I didn't care much about it. So I just rolled my eyes and shifted my focus toward making breakfast.
Nonetheless, my heart rate began to rise gradually upon hearing footsteps drawing near me. From the corner of my eyes, I noticed Zander approaching with a slight furrow between his brows and the usual serious expression on his attractive face.
"What are you doing here?" He asked, looking around. He became strangely relaxed upon finding the kitchen empty. "You should rest in your room. You're injured," he said in a gentle tone.
"Do you want anything, Alpha?" I asked, avoiding his persistent gaze at me and trying to control my racing heart.
"Go and rest until the burn has fully healed," he ordered in his Alpha tone.
"I'm afraid it will take some time to prepare the breakfast," I politely responded, avoiding any mention of his orders.
As I focused on preparing breakfast, he stood there glaring at me, but I chose to ignore him. It appeared that neither of us was willing to answer any of the questions, as we both seemed to play aloof.
"Why do you have to be so stubborn?" He whispered with a hint of annoyance in his voice.
"Excuse me, Alpha!" I breathed out frustratedly. "I am busy right now."
"This is not the answer to my question," he snapped, running a hand through his short dark hair. "I will talk to Eden. How could she allow an injured person to work in the kitchen?" He muttered and started moving away.
"There are many things going on in your pack house and kitchen that you haven't even noticed," I whispered teasingly.
"What do you mean?" He asked, pausing and turning to me with a furrowed brow.
"As a King, it's your responsibility to look after everyone in your pack. However, it seems like you're not aware of what's happening within the pack house," I abruptly halted my chopping and pivoted to confront him.
