Chapter 538 Sensual Interrogation
*Selena*

As I stepped into the kitchen to carry out my duties, an unsettling feeling immediately enveloped the room. The atmosphere seemed far from normal. A distinct absence lingered, a void left by Lola's departure. The Omegas regarded me with disdain as though I held some responsibility for Lola’s untimely demise.

I, too, missed her dearly; her sudden death was a wound that hadn't yet healed. Lola had been more than a friend, a sisterly figure with an unparalleled sweetness.

Avery and Eden's expressions were far from welcoming. Their glances conveyed a palpable unhappiness as if my presence there was undesirable. Eden deliberately assigned me an array of arduous and extra chores, attempting to keep me

preoccupied. Despite the hardship, I needed to see it through. Time was slipping away, and the urgency of my next move pressed upon me. Eventually, lunchtime came and went, and the kitchen was finally clean. A rare moment of tranquility settled upon me.

During breakfast and again at lunch, I noticed Zander seated at the table. Yet, he maintained his customary cold and distant demeanor. According to our devised plan, he acted indifferent, preserving the appearance that nothing had changed between us. As Maddox departed with Zander after lunch, I subtly signaled Emile to follow me discreetly to the storeroom.

Closing the door behind us, Emile couldn't help but inquire, "What's the matter?" With precision, I delivered the news, "The task is complete."

Her eyes widened in a mixture of surprise and elation. "You mean…?!" she trailed off, awaiting confirmation.

I nodded, a sense of accomplishment settling over me. "Yes."

In a voice stripped of emotion, she inquired further, "Where is the data?" "I have it with me," I responded succinctly as Emile's gaze bore into me. "Hand it over," she demanded impatiently, her tone edged with urgency.

"Emile, this information is highly confidential. Therefore, I intend to deliver it only to your boss," I declined firmly, my head shaking in a resolute manner.

"Pass me the data, and I'll ensure it reaches the boss," Emile retorted with a scowl etched across her face.

"No, Emile. I can't place my trust in you," I replied curtly, a slight smirk playing on my lips. This was the push I needed – to rile her up and provoke a reaction.

"How dare you?" she snapped, her anger flaring. That was the tipping point I aimed for, hoping she would lose her temper and let slip her secrets.

"It's not a matter of blame, Emile. The simple truth is, I can't rely on your word. If you're capable of deceiving your own pack and even the alpha, then there's no guarantee you won't deceive others. What if you decide to sell this crucial data to a third party? My safety would be at risk," I reasoned calmly, a nonchalant shrug accompanying my words. "I'm not willing to take that chance. I'll entrust this information only to the boss."

Emily's gaze bore into me, her eyes narrowing in a glare. The tension in the room was palpable as I patiently awaited her response.

"Fine," she huffed in frustration, annoyance evident in her tone. "I'll arrange a meeting with him."

"When?" I retorted swiftly, my curiosity piqued.

"Tonight!" she whispered, her voice laced with irritation.

The ease with which she gave in surprised me. So, tonight I was going to find out who was behind all this. However, it could mean one more thing – the mastermind orchestrating all of this was within our pack, living among us.

"Alright then," I responded in a tone stripped of emotion. I needed to inform Zander about this development.

Emile was about to leave when a sudden realization struck me, prompting me to halt her in her tracks.

"Wait, Emile! Did you send that rogue to kill me last night?" I queried, tilting my head and scrutinizing her with a skeptical gaze.

"What?!" She furrowed her brow in confusion. "Why on earth would I do something like that?" Her words came out in a sharp bite.

"I can't fathom your intentions, can I?" I snapped back, frustration tinting my voice. "Listen, Selena! I hold no personal grudges against you. Taking your life wouldn't align with our plan. We understand that you're the only one capable of retrieving the data for us. So, it's illogical for us to want you dead," she explained desperately, her words carrying a sense of urgency.

Her reasoning made sense, and yet, the puzzle pieces still didn't quite fit together. Why, then, had someone dispatched a rogue to attack Lola in my room? An unsettling feeling gnawed at me, a sense that there was more to this situation than met the eye.

"Be ready with the data. Tonight, I'll escort you to the boss," Emile instructed firmly before making her exit.

Now, the immediate task was to locate Zander and convey this crucial revelation to him – that we were on the brink of unmasking the mastermind behind it all. However, the challenge lay in how to approach him without arousing suspicion, as he was rarely alone.
