Where was he going like this? Was he hiding from someone? I had never seen him dressed like that—heck, I’d never even seen him walk like that! Something about it felt off, like it didn’t fit the scenario at all.

I got up quickly and left the royal garden. He was navigating through the pack’s forest, and I followed him, my curiosity overriding my better judgment. But as I trailed him, I lost sight of him in the maze of trees. Stopping in the middle of the forest, I tried to figure out where he could have gone.

Then, I felt it—a presence behind me. Before I could fully turn to see who it was, a pair of hands grabbed me from behind.

“Are you stalking me, mate?” a low growl rumbled in my ear, sending shivers down my spine.

“Zander?!” I asked, frowning as I tried to process his sudden appearance. “What are you doing here?”

He released me, and I quickly spun around to face him. My eyes scanned him, noting how different he looked today.

“It’s my pack, and I can do whatever I want,” Zander said arrogantly. “But why are you wandering around like this, mate? It’s not safe for you.”

“They’re dark now. How is that even possible?” I countered, my voice edged with disbelief.

“Really?” he said, his tone amused. Then, as he blinked and reopened his eyes, they appeared blue again—but it wasn’t the same vibrant shade I knew so well.

“Is it normal now?” he asked with a faint grin, but I instinctively took a step back, putting some distance between us. His touch had felt... wrong, unfamiliar.
