Chapter 248 Being Wealthy Isn’t Everything

“You are now married to Nathael, so you are part of the Harris family. Feel free to pursue whatever you want, and know that the Harrises have your back.”

At the time, she couldn’t quite grasp the significance of those words.

But looking back, she realised that Marcus, as Nathael’s father, had shown her the greatest kindness.

Being in a high position, he didn’t need to say much.

However, parental love is universal, and he always hoped his son could find happiness.

“Though you may be blind in your eyes, don’t be blind in your heart. I trust you can discern how Nathael treats you.”

Maggie drifted off in memories, realising how well Nathael’s parents had treated her, which only made her feel ashamed for her selfishness.

She couldn’t help but glance at the man beside her. He gave her a reassuring smile and said gently, “Whether you have any complaints or not, seize the opportunity.”

Maggie felt a pang in her heart and looked at Marcus, saying, “He’s great, and he’s been so nice to me.”

I’ve never met anyone better than him–someone who treats me better than he does.

Maggie silently added it to her heart.

Marcus smiled and continued, “Your relationship with the Camerons is complicated. If you need anything, just ask Nathael. He will take care of it.”

“Thank you, Mr. Marcus. Nathael has already helped me a lot.” Maggie thanked him sincerely.

As the dishes were served one after another, it was apparent that Nathael’s parents had already looked into her background, so they didn’t ask too many questions, just wanting to get to know her.

After the meal, the waiter cleared the dishes and brought out this year’s new tea. The group chatted for a

while.

“I’ve seen your design work, and it’s very innovative and talented. I plan to use the villa on Maplewood Avenue as your marital home. Do you want to design it yourself, or do you have a particular style in mind and would like to hire a designer you like?” Clara spoke warmly.

Faced with the Harrises‘ generosity, Maggie always struggled to find her voice.

A marital home?

In her previous life, after marrying Nathael, she had simply moved into his villa. He had inquired about her preferences and needs.

However, his inquiry had been met with a blunt response. “Why bother with the facade? Living with someone you detest, even in a luxurious house–what’s the point? What do you think, Mr. Harris?”

She couldn’t see his disappointment and hurt at that time. All she could perceive was his silence.

“I’ll need to talk to Nathael about this when I get back.” Maggie could only rely on stalling for time.

Normally, she would have been overjoyed at such a prospect.

But in the current circumstances, all these kindnesses and hopeful expectations had transformed into overwhelming pressure weighing heavily on her heart.

“Okay, there are some other wedding matters to discuss. Do you ha

meal to talk about it?” Clara spoke again.

Putting aside everything else, Maggie was a bit puzzled.

It felt like things were moving too fast, almost like being on a rocket. Although she and Nathael had only. recently started dating, how did the topic of marriage come up so suddenly?

Before Maggie could speak, Nathael interjected, “We can discuss these matters later. Maggie hasn’t agreed to marry me yet.”

With Nathael stepping in, Maggie breathed a sigh of relief.

With the topic of marriage set aside, Maggie relaxed a bit. Clara and Marcus chatted with her about her future career plans and their appreciation for her designs. It was an enjoyable conversation for everyone.

Soon, Demi started getting closer to Maggie.

“Maggie, your double eyelids are so pretty. Your children with my cousin will be gorgeous.”

Although the dolls retained the brand’s cute charm, they somehow also resembled her and Nathael, making them even more lifelike.

The man was dressed in dark blue pyjamas with a cool and aloof expression, while the woman wore a princess–style white nightgown, bright yet proud and indescribably cute.

“These are adorable! Thank you, Mr. Marcus. Thank you, Demi.”

Maggie thanked them sincerely, only letting out a sigh of relief when the others left, leaving her alone with Nathael.

But it wasn’t until now that Maggie finally had a moment to glance at the contract and documents Marcus had given her.

At first, she hadn’t paid much attention, but now, as she looked, Maggie froze in disbelief.

Marcus had gifted her a shopping mall!

And not just any shopping mall, but one in the luxurious business district of Aquapolis!

To put it simply, just the rental income alone would be enough to ensure her financial security for the rest of her life.

“What’s wrong?” Nathael leaned in, speaking softly.

“Am I … going to become a landlady?” Maggie hesitated, looking at him.

Nathael chuckled softly. “If you like, I can transfer the properties under my name to yours.”

“I don’t want that!” Maggie instinctively refused.

The gifts from Marcus and Clara were already a hot potato. If Nathael caused more trouble again, Maggie didn’t know how to handle it.

Nathael stayed quiet, his intense gaze fixed on her, revealing no hint of his thoughts.

“Why?” After a while, Nathael asked.

Maggie avoided meeting his eyes as she sidestepped. “Being wealthy isn’t everything. We’re not that close yet, and I don’t want such expensive gifts from you. What if things don’t work out between us?”
