In the evening, Nathael finished work early and planned to take Maggie out for a walk.

Nathael walked with Maggie as they strolled around the commercial street. Maggie bought a few clothes and two bags, but she couldn’t muster much enthusiasm.

“Are you feeling low?” Nathael asked, holding her hand.

“Not really, but whenever I think about the Camerons, I feel like human nature is wicked. It’s challenging my understanding and imagination,” Maggie spoke softly.

Nathael didn’t respond, but he held her hand tighter.

Maggie hesitated before turning to him. “What do you mean?”

“Like what will happen to the Camerons or us,” Nathael spoke slowly.

Maggie stood still, unable to speak for a moment. The dazzling commercial signs on both sides cast luxurious light and shadows, brightening the entire street.

Standing in the middle of the road. Maggie adjusted her gearf as she felt a lump in her throat.

She could hear the wind and snow, the festive laughter, and the cheerful music.

Yet, at that moment, it felt like there were only the two of them in the world. The world was bustling, yet strangely quiet.

Nathael didn’t rush her; he simply lowered his gaze and patiently listened.

After a while, Maggie raised her hand to tuck the wind–blown strands of hair behind her ear and said. softly. “We’ll always be together, always happy, despite the arguments and misunderstandings. We’ll face life together, and even in death, we’ll be buried next to each other.”

As Maggie spoke softly, every day of her past life seemed to flash before her eyes like a revolving lantern.

She knew that being too vague wouldn’t make him believe her.

This was just right.

“When did you start having feelings for me?” Maggie asked, her curiosity lingering from both this life and the past.

Nathael remained quiet for a while before answering, “A long time ago, back at Sunshine Orphanage.”

Maggie was taken aback for a moment, then she sat up and turned to face him. “You saw me at the orphanage?”

After narrowly escaping kidnapping by the Camerons‘ thugs and suffering an accident that erased her memory, Maggie ended up at the orphanage.

Given her young age and the trauma, it wasn’t surprising that she didn’t remember much, and someone kindly placed her there.

Later, when the Camerons‘ kidnappers tracked her down and confirmed her memory loss, Ronald decided to let Maggie stay at the orphanage for two years as they observed her and made sure she suffered a little before eventually adopting her.
