Yance was shocked out of his wits at the sight, before realizing that Wilbur was behind this.

"What… What the hell have you done to them? I'm warning you, murder is an offense punishable by death!"

Yance went pale in the face as he spoke, terrified by Wilbur's ministrations.

Wilbur got to his feet, putting his hands on Yance's desk as he stared him coldly in the eyes.

"I'm going to say this one last time. I applied to be a medical intern here. I hope you won't make me repeat this a second time, or you're going to regret it."

The words gave Yance a shock, and he found himself retreating backward.

"W-What are you trying to do? I'm warning you! Don't try anything funny! We have laws in place for a reason, you'll be done for if you screw it up!"

Yance was terrified, but he had been abusing his power for long enough to have witnessed many life-threatening incidents in the hospital.

That was why he was able to remain reasonably calm in the face of Wilbur's forcefulness.

Yance was fully in terror of what Wilbur had just done and stared at him as he trembled.

"Mister Hoover, I'm sure you know… that there are these magical people with curious powers who exist in our world. I happened to learn a thing or two from one of these people and am now capable of taking someone's fragile life away without leaving a trace! You can very well repeat what you just said, and I'm sure you'll be able to experience my new skill. I promise it won't disappoint."

Wilbur sat back down silently, waiting for a response from Yance.

Yance stared at Wilbur in terror, falling silent as well.

A minute went by, then two…

A whole five minutes later, Yance seemed to finally understand something before he broke out into a bright smile. "I'm so sorry for my behavior just now, sir. Let me apologize. I don't know whose toes I stepped on for them to send someone like you to me, but I'll give you all the money you need as long as you agree to let me go. How's that?"
