"So, now that your mother's paralyzed, you're the breadwinner of the house but all the money you make goes to your father?"

"Yes."

Ellen took a deep breath, her eyes as she mustered up the courage to say, "I'm sure you didn't expect that, right? You must be thinking that I'm a complete joke. Well, go ahead. Laugh all you want."

Wilbur shook his head. "No. I feel awful that you had to go through all of that. Dashan people do not like mocking others. Besides, I told you I would help you."

Ellen barked out a laugh, tears welling up in her eyes. She had been ready for Wilbur to laugh at her and even abandon her, leaving her to leave the cafe awkwardly on her own. Yet not only did Wilbur not laugh at her, but he even comforted her, which had warmed her heart.

After the cafe, Ellen brought Wilbur to the theme park at his suggestion. The two of them had a fun afternoon together until Ellen's father called her screaming. Ellen's smile froze on her face, and she turned to Wilbur. "I think it's time for me to go. Thank you for everything you've done for me today. You're a good man. I guess this is where I say goodbye to you."

Ellen felt like Wilbur just wanted to give her the courage to live on, and she was extremely grateful for that. However, there was a limit to everyone's financial capacity, and Wilbur had already spent a fair amount of money on her for the day. Ellen did not want the lovely afternoon she had to be destroyed by something else.

She was happy enough with what she had gotten.

Wilbur frowned. "I told you I was going to help you, didn't I? Besides, you said that we were now friends, and don't friends help each other out?"

"There's nothing I have that makes me worthy of your help. I guess if you want… I can give 'that' to you. You can go book a hotel now if you want."

Wilbur moved first, grabbing Howie's belt. "Mister Howie, I don't think it's right of you to treat your daughter like this."

Howie looked Wilbur up and down. "Who the f*ck are you? This is my house, and whatever happens under this roof is none of your business. You'd better get out of here and get lost forever."

Wilbur grabbed the belt out of Howie's grasp, kicking him to the floor. "Mister Howie, I'm telling you this now. I'm a friend of Ellen's, and I'm here to have a good talk with you. If you keep assaulting her like this, I promise things aren't going to end well for you."

Wilbur glanced at Ellen after that, who went into her room at once. Wilbur reached out to haul Howie off the floor, only for him to aim a kick at Wilbur as he got up. Wilbur's leg shot out, sending Howie flying at once.
