Wilbur's footsteps made crunching noises in the snow, and he had hidden his aura to prevent being spotted by other cultivators. He was in the middle of hunting for prey in the woods when an adult deer came charging toward him. Wilbur dodged quickly to the left, just in time to hear a series of rushed galloping sounds. Wilbur scrambled to hide behind a tree, and just half a minute later, a few people could be seen chasing after the deer on their horses.
The man leading the group looked rather familiar, but he passed by so quickly that Wilbur could not identify him right away. All Wilbur could see was the man pulling the string of his bow atop his white horse, letting it go, and shooting the deer.
"Well done!"
"Brilliant archery, Mister Farring!"
The two men behind cheered and whooped, but Wilbur frowned from where he was hiding. "What? Mister Farring?"
"Go and see if it's dead yet."
"Yes, Mister Farring."
One guy got off his horse, running towards the deer. Realization struck Wilbur then. Mister Farring was Saber Farring, the guy who had pretended to want to work with him in the cave before.
"The deer's dead, Mister Farring! You shot it right through the throat!"
"Nice. Take it back. We'll at least have something to show the Bills."
"I'm sure this must be your biggest catch of the year, Mister Farring. You really are a wonderful archer, sir," another guy gushed.
"A lower dimension cultivator killed three snow wolves on his own?"
"Yeah, I didn't believe it at first." Saber flicked the reins of his horse. "But he did it. I reckon he's got something precious on him that's helping him out. I pretended to form a partnership with him, trying to gain his trust so I could hire someone to kill him."
"Oh, did you mean to let him go in the end?"
"No, of course not. Don't you forget that I only treat members of the Eight Great Families with decency. The guy's a nobody. His possessions are all going to me. But for some reason, he managed to see through my plan. The bastard managed to slip away while I was gone! Ah, what a shame."
Saber was actually a servant of the Bill family and spent his time running errands for them. He was prone to preying on some skilled cultivators during his time out of town and finding ways to get close to them.
