But Dailey's path was different from Gregory's.
He couldn't be as reckless as Gregory.
After all, Gregory had gone through numerous persecutions before reaching where he was today.
Dailey could choose a safer route; there was no need to take risks.
He was, after all, her only son.
"I'll go greet the guests. You all chat with Dailey," Jayne said, taking her leave.
Gregory nodded, watching Jayne walk away. He approached Dailey, clinking his glass against Dailey's.
"Congratulations, birthday boy, another year older."
Dailey shot him a sidelong glance. "We're the same age."
"Not quite. A few months younger, so I age slower than you," Gregory quipped.
Dailey had more guests to attend to and paid him no mind. Gregory then led Jane to the lounge area for a short break and offered her some favorite snacks.
After a few drinks, Jane needed to use the restroom. Gregory accompanied her.
Suddenly, a flash of white caught his eye around the corner.
He remembered that Libby was wearing a white dress tonight.
"What are you looking at?" Jane asked.
Gregory held her hand and quickly descended the stairs.
Dailey was nowhere in sight.
He instructed Lucius to check the surveillance footage.
They had been through too much; their instincts were always sharper than others.
The footage showed Dailey entering a room, followed shortly by Libby.
"This isn't good," Jane remarked, sharing Gregory's concern.
They hurried to the fifth-floor room, with Quinn and the others not far behind.
But they were a step behind Jayne.
When they arrived, Jayne was already scolding Dailey.
"We were supposed to form an alliance with the Carters. Today's meeting was just to get acquainted and build rapport. What's the rush?"
Gregory glanced at his watch.
