Dexter asked Rocky to bring his work laptop over since he had to continue working from his hospital room. He had an important meeting that day, so he had no choice but to hold it via video conference.
He sat on the balcony with the sunlight shining behind him. His expression was cold and serious. Once all the senior executives joined the video call, he began delegating tasks and making work arrangements.
After about ten minutes, he started feeling uncomfortable. His face felt slightly warm.
On the screen, several of his company's executives exchanged glances, whispering among themselves.
Dexter's expression darkened. Those elderly men usually sat through meetings with blank, expressionless faces. Why did they seem so fascinated today?
"Mr. Bamford, are you feeling unwell?" Rocky asked from the side.
Dexter gave him a sideways glance. "What makes you think that?"
Rocky pointed at his face cautiously. "I can see it from your face."
Dexter froze upon hearing that.
Rocky pulled out his phone and turned on the front camera to show him. Red spots dotted his entire cheek. It was quite an alarming sight.
No wonder Dexter had been feeling uncomfortable. His face felt hot, and he felt itchy all over. He felt a pricking sensation on various areas of his skin.
"This looks like an allergic reaction. You should get a doctor to examine your condition immediately," Rocky urged.
The meeting was abruptly suspended.
Rocky called a doctor, who confirmed that it was indeed an allergic reaction. But they needed further blood tests to determine the exact cause.
Angela rushed over upon hearing the news.
"What did you eat to trigger an allergy? Why didn't you tell me about it earlier?" She felt slightly guilty as she observed his flushed face.
Could she be the bane of his existence or something?
Dexter took a deep breath. "I have no idea. Let's wait for the results."
His collar was too tight. Angela tried to slip her hand under it but couldn't. So, she decided to unbutton the front instead. However, as she leaned over, she accidentally brushed against his IV tube.
"Angela!" Dexter roared in frustration.
As a result, the IV catheter was yanked out of his vein, causing a sharp sting and making him wince in pain.
Angela was slow to realize what she'd done. As she looked down, she saw the tube hanging from her arm and swaying with the IV fluid still dripping from it.
"Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to do that… I was just trying to unbutton your shirt!"
She felt amused and apologetic at the same time. For the first time ever, she felt that she was in the wrong as she looked at his strained expression.
They had no choice but to call for a doctor to come and reinsert the IV.
Dexter sat on the bed in silence. It looked as if a layer of gloom shrouded his entire being. He seemed to be on the verge of breaking down.
At that exact moment, Fiona arrived carrying large bags filled with gifts.
