Bill’s face paled at once. 

Right. He wasn’t just afraid of Tyler. He was also terrified of Dexter. 

“What sort of play are you two putting on?” Dexter’s voice was calm. 

He was tall, with an imposing presence that seemed to shrink the spacious living room the moment he stepped inside. 

Bill’s face twisted in panic as he instinctively glanced at Judy. He looked as if he wanted to hide behind her. 

“Dexter, y–you should have let us know you were coming.” Judy’s smile was strained as she fumbled for words. 

Dexter casually sat down on the couch. “Can’t I come? This is Angie’s house. As her husband, I’m likely more entitled to be here than either of you. 

Bill’s face turned as pale as a sheet. 

This didn’t make sense! Wasn’t Dexter the one who had always looked down on Angela and was eager to cut her loose? 

“Yes, yes, of course.” Judy’s forced grin widened as she wrung her hands. She struggled to find something to say. 

At that moment, the friends Judy had invited for a house tour arrived. 

“Judy, is this the house your stepdaughter gave you? Wow, it’s stunning! It’s like a castle!” 

“Exactly! In our group, only Judy has the fortune to live somewhere this beautiful.” 

“Judy, this place is perfect for photos. The garden and backyard are huge. You could even play golf back there!” 

The group walked into the living room together. 

Judy was already mortified. At this moment, her face was practically buried in her white turtleneck sweater. 

Just then, the laughter abruptly came to a halt. 

“W–What’s going on here, Judy? Your stepdaughter is back? And this gentleman is…”

The quiet young man sitting there looked like Dexter. 

Everyone knew Angela was married to Dexter but wasn’t in his favor. They had spent

countless afternoons gossiping over the stories Judy had shared about Angela’s miserable marriage. Yet today, Dexter was here at this gathering. 

The group exchanged subtle glances, reading between the lines. 

“Well, Judy, if there’s nothing else, we’ll be on our way,” one of them muttered. 

They left as quickly as they’d arrived. Their previous energy was replaced by uneasy silence. 

“Why are you two still here?” Dexter finally broke the silence. 

Judy flinched at the sound of his voice, then hurried toward the door. 

Bill stood frozen, tom between wanting to argue and knowing better than to press his luck. Judy, ever pragmatic, returned to drag him out. 

Now it was just Dexter and Angela in the living room. 

“I thought you’d be doing so much better after leaving me, but it turns out you’re just the same,” Dexter remarked with a faint smile. The mockery in his eyes was unmistakable. 

Angela ignored him, sitting silently as she busied herself with something. 

After a moment, she made a call, arranging for a security company to install the latest surveillance system and automatic alarms in the house. 

“This is my home. You can leave now,” she said curtly before walking off to unpack her belongings without sparing him another glance. 

Dexter abruptly stood and glared at her back as she moved about. After a long pause, he spat, “You ungrateful thing!”

Later that afternoon, Angela visited a pet shop. She brought home two new companions–a long–haired calico cat and a three–month–old Doberman. She named the cat Mitsy and dog Dobby.
